Report: Chip Kelly already plotting to move up for Marcus Mariota

Eagles coach Chip Kelly frequently gushes publicly about his former Oregon Marcus Mariota, and according to one report, Kelly is already plotting privately to acquire Mariota in the NFL draft.

The Eagles have the 20th overall pick in the draft, and Mariota isn’t expected to be available by that point, but NJ.com reports that the team is already committed to trying to move up in the draft to acquire Mariota.

“From No. 20, it’s certainly not going to be easy,” an unnamed source told NJ.com. “It’s probably going to take moving up twice to do it. There’s going to be some wheeling and dealing involved. Can it happen? I don’t know. But they’re going to try.”

It’s way too early to say anything for certain about the draft. It’s possible that the Buccaneers will decide to use the first overall pick on Mariota, and that any other team’s interest in him is moot. It’s also possible that Mariota’s stock will tumble, and he’ll still be available at No. 20. And it’s possible that Kelly actually isn’t as in love with Mariota as he says publicly, and that the Eagles won’t draft him even if he gets the chance.

So take this one with a grain of salt. But also file it away for the future. As the draft gets closer, if it looks like the Bucs will pass on Mariota and there’s a trade to be made for a team moving up to get him, the Eagles might be that team. And Mariota and Kelly might reunite in the NFL.

Good.
I hope he gets him.

If it'd have to be a three team trade, I'm all for this. Move back to 20 and get a 2nd round pick in the process.

He'll have to make a trade like the Redskin's did with us to get him! I don't see that happening!

I agree with DaveFan'51, he would have to mortgage the farm to do it. From what i heard on the local sports radio is that Eagles have plenty of cap space but it would be a long shot. Very long shot. I wouldn't even the Rams to do it at the ten spot! Eagles need d backs before QB. It's going to be all over the place because of there history. I am sick of it already and they are not my team, but I live in the area and listen to the station.

I don't think Mariota gets past the 5th pick so the Eagles would have to make a huge trade to get him. Don't see that happening. Its hard to see even the Rams possibly trading up to get him.

I see that as the ideal fit. Pairing Mariota with the Eagles means that he doesn't have to have an extreme system change, he will be playing under a familiar head coach, and he would be on a relevant team instead of a rebuilding disaster. If Mariota turns out to be a great player on any other team, he would be even better in Philly.

Yep would be a great fit but good god moving from 20 to 2-5 to get him in this weak QB class with other teams likely picking higher in on the bidding war too. I cant imagine what it would take. at least what the redskins gave up then maybe a vet player and even more picks. And whos to say thats not who Tampa is eyeing with that first overall pick.

Yeah, its probably never going to happen but I wish I could see that offense at work. I feel like that would be a lock as a playoff team.

Disagree. We should take Mariota or Winston if we have the shot.

I'm not as high on Mariota as you are. Winston, I'm very high on his ability, not sure if I want us to trade up for him due to his character.

If it takes a two move trade up, then I don't want it to bewitch the Rams. At this point they need impact players like Donald. The farther back a team moves the lower the chances to get those types of players.

I don't know it's possible for 2 reasons.
One, they would have to overpay so much because the team they might have t0 trade with needs a QB also. 3 1st's and couple seconds etc.. Or less draft and a couple young players.

Two, I'm not sure Kelly is entrenched enough to make that trade. It's not like the Eagles are on the cusp.

Mariota would be a nightmare to play in Kelly's scheme, and he would have too because rest of the team would absolutely suck.

Agreed. Aside from offensive line this Rams team has good talent in place, and the defense/special teams units are solid. If the opportunity to gamble on one of these top 2 QB's presents itself, the Rams can afford it.

I wouldn't hesitate to draft either one of these QB's if they somehow were sitting there at #10. Trading up? Ehh...not so much.

Question: If Mariota does tank on purpose or they do somehow draft up to pick him would you want Foles as our starter?
