Was wondering if they would stop that or not. Not a big deal for us I don't think. Hurts a player like Tutu who has to rely on just his speed and being able to get into space without being jammed at the LOS. But I think hurts Dolphins and Whiners more as they were much bigger into that with Tyreek and Deebo. Just means they'll find ways to use those guys out of the backfield more probably.

I always thought it was illegal if a player in motion turned up field before the snap.

So me thinks this would apply to our jet sweep plays. Kupp or Tutu coming from the outside, moving towards the QB who snaps the ball and hands off to the already in motion receiver. Now the receiver has to come to a complete stop before the snap. This sucks.

The rule change hurts the gimmicky pass game threats. The Rams have guys who can win off the line.

Tutu is our affected player.

Only if the WR is lined up on the LOS. If the WR is back off the LOS wouldn't that be considered the backfield?

The author needs help to understand the rule as he showed a play where Reek is in the backfield. The new rule doesn’t impact him since he’s not on the line of scrimmage.

This will however prevent a wr, on the line of scrimmage as eligible, to motion into a jet sweep handoff. If I were McVay I’d line all 3 WRs on the scrimmage line and then back 1 off (would need at least another wr on the same side) have him set, and motion him in the backfield and approach the QB to either fake a sweep, block on run plays, or take a hand off.

Sham-a-man will definitely copy, but this play design exploits the loophole in the play change.

FYI, I’m still uncertain why the new rule results in a false start and a dead ball. If it’s flagged ans illegal motion or shift, that’s a live ball foul. The difference is the illegal shift or motion is correctable prior to the snap, while a false start feigns a snap has occurred. My $0.02.

I'm just guessing, based on penalties I have seen for too many/ not enough men on LOS based on where a WR lined up. I could be wrong, it has happened a few times. LOL
