So here's the deal. I don't have even one thousandth the knowledge of football McVay has under all those hair follicles. But that doesn't mean a fan can't have a good idea right? So here we go. Something to unveil vs the 9ers.

Personnel group is 12. TE lined up on the LOS next to the OT. Michel in the backfield. Akers out wide as Z on same side as the TE. X and Y opposite side.

As is usual the jet action to the wide hash. Time to call this shit is first down with a wide hash. Akers in motion, QB will hand it to either him (to the edge) or Michel (duo blocking up the gut) depending on defensive alignment.

This is not a new play by any means. It's just modifying what the Rams do with 11 personnel and doing it with 12 and using Akers superior threat to the edge INSTEAD OF a receiver. Basically look at the film below at 3:32 and imagine Akers there instead of Jefferson. Then imagine them using that motion and those players to have them need to cover two very good backs one of whom can kill them with that jet action. Akers off that edge would be a fucking defensive disaster. And then the Rams have Michel for mashing too if the backers cheat over.

McVay used that when Goff was QB to keep the whiners honest on the edges and it also caused some confusion for the linebackers. But this season we hardly see it. Not sure if Akers is going to play as much this week if he can't secure the ball but Van J or OBJ might be a good option.

I think dual backfield with Akers moving around and Kupp/Beckham at wideout would be the truth. You can mash it with Michel. Or you can hand it to Akers. You can throw it to Akers. Or you can drop and wait for Kupp or Beckham to beat their coverage and have Michel snuffing out rushers in pass pro.

Maybe a few plays to set it up with that motion and then a carry or two then back to decoy. Could be a good option to change things up but it’s not like they are not use to playing that jet sweep.

With his fumbles last week I'd rather not. I'd prefer OBJ or Jefferson on the end around, anyway.

I have been trying to think of the curveballs Shanahan might be cooking up…

I think he brings a few surprises.

We need to see a lot of Sony this game. The 9ers are so physical that yes Akers can play but fumbling in this game is not an option. I see a 17 to 13 game with a Rams win playing tough smashmouth football. Go rams

I've been waiting to see McVay use our rb's in the passing game. Hendo has caught a few balls and does a good job of it and would really like to see more of it. Too many times have I seen a rb open in the middle or along the sideline only to be looked off for the big play. We need to utilize those short yardage situations to keep the niners O off the field and tire out their D. Bc you know they're gonna do that shit to us.

I believe Sony was the featured back against the 9ers and had like 20+ carries vs Akers who had like 5. We still lost that game. I think McVay needs to add more to the run game. I see us running up the middle against Tampa and SF with no success. We have to continue running to keep the D honest but we have to be more efficient with those carries. If we can't overpower their Dline than out scheme them.

The reason we can't win on the ground vs those fucks is our interior OL. They get trucked too much and spring leaks in zone on a routine basis vs them.

I think McVay was on the right course going with duo because it helps weak OL fronts to win vs the big boys. Allen is the key. He needs a buddy if you want to move a big NT off his spot and establish a 4 yard per pop run game. He just needs to go all-in vs the 9ers with that approach.

Michel is excellent for a grind them up interior run game. Run fucking duo. Give Michel 10-15 carries up the middle. Not screens. Not swing passes. Not outside zone runs. Feed him on the interior and that's his job. Short yardage and early down runs to keep things balanced.

Akers should be used as a decoy early on as the jet sweep option. He's the outlet pass and the screen guy. Then feed him as the 9ers defense starts to tire. Let them have a full dose of his fresh legs and high intensity runs and once that front is tired you can zone them all day long.

Also and btw... If you want to run zone or have the center solo the NT then play Shelton. He doesn't move as well as Allen but he's got a better chance of sealing a guy IMO.

I like the idea of using Akers on those jet-moves..

I'd also like McVay to steal that tackle-in-motion shit that Shanahan did with Williams.

That shit looked dangerous, he had a full head of steam and just blew up that whole side of the line, teammates as well as opponents.

Definitely agree and that's my point, I don't want McVay to get pass happy but I don't want to just run at the strength of this 9er defense either. McVay has to mix it up on the run plays, maybe even do somethings we haven't done before to loosen and keep that D honest. I still believe Akers can make this D pay. He can make yards out in the flat that Sony can't. Definitely use Sony on short yardage situations.
