Cam Akers made a remarkable recovery from a torn Achilles last year, returning to the field less than six months after suffering the injury. He gained 248 total yards in the playoffs, making three starts in the four games he played.

Everyone watching was amazed by his performance, given the circumstances, but he wasn’t close to satisfied with the way he played.

“I just wasn’t happy with my overall postseason performance,” he said after Rams minicamp. “Every playoff game, even the one game in the regular season, I just felt like I left a lot on the field. There was more out there to be had.”

Despite reaching the pinnacle of the sport as a Super Bowl champion, Akers didn’t reward himself with a vacation or a bunch of time off. He’s been at the Rams’ facility working out and training every day at 8 a.m., pushing to be even better in 2022.

“This offseason, I really wanted to focus on being more consistent. Going out every play, every snap and just making sure I put myself in the best position to be successful,” he said. “No vacations. Only one trip home. That’s probably the only time I left L.A. I’ve been here every day working and they can attest to it. 8 o’clock in the morning every day.”

Akers is clearly motivated to be the best player he can this season, but simply putting together a better season than his first two won’t be enough. He still won’t be satisfied. Not until he’s mentioned as one of the three best running backs in the NFL.

“Win first, and I do my part second and I’ll be happy,” Akers said when asked what has to happen for him to feel good about the season. “Until y’all can mention me with the top three running backs in the league, outside of winning, I won’t be happy.”

If Akers can stay healthy and remain the Rams’ workhorse back for the entire season, he has a great chance to ascend as one of the best running backs in the league. Todd Gurley maintained that title while he was with the Rams, and Akers can be a similar player.

IF he can stay healthy I sincerely think Akers will be an ALL PRO and will give the Rams running game a huge boost!!!

Should plan with a RB by committee approach during the early half of the season to keep Akers's legs fresh. Our running game will benefit immensely if he's in excellent form heading towards the postseason, especially when run defenses are more stout

I'm not sure Akers is a feature back, and we don't necessarily need him to be. I love that kids game and love his attitude even more. Huge fan of Cam and just hope he can stay healthy and do his thing this year. We're going to need Hendo to do the same.

Really thought that was going to happen last year before the injury. He looked great at the end of 2020 as would have been coming off a full season ready to make his mark.

I think the way he came back, his obvious desire and the team and coaches around him sets him up to attain all of those goals.

You know everyone will be expecting the Rams to throw early and often but as we saw last year, the running game makes this offense better.

Looking forward to a big year from Cam.

Will Cam prove to be the Terrell Davis clone I so want to believe he is? Having an elite feature back sharing the backfield with Matthew can really launch this Horns offense into the stratosphere. Cooper, Allan, Van, HigBeast, Cam, Hendo, eventually OBJ (Hey! Some of us are very, very positive thinkers!!! --- who are ya gonna cover?

It has been more than a year since we have seen a 100% Akers. Looking forward to seeing the 2020 Akers this fall.

The Ram Homer from NFL net Peter talks about him being one of his top(5) RB’s in 2022.

He also said in the GB playoff game he ran 6 wildcat plays & he was a HS QB.

If his motivation to be the best is truly there, Akers can be one of the best. Unfortunately the RB position is brutal, so staying healthy is tantamount to accomplishing his goals. There’s no guarantees.

I hope one of the RBs can be top three this year. That, or combined top three.

Put your money where your mouth is Cam. Gitter done.

I hope he does. I really do. I'm excited for this kid's future because I thought he'd never be playing so soon after an Achilles tear, let alone starting in the Super Bowl.

I really hope he can reach his goals, objectively speaking I don't see him anywhere near the top 5

Akers doesn’t need to be top 5 or top 3 coming out of thevgates but he does need to work himself back into shape and contribute to a very effective Running game with Henderson/Williams.

I always have to remind myself that he only has two 100 Yard games in his career. He certainly looks really good sometimes, and he flashes, but I am not sure we have seen enough to assume he will be "The Guy". I sure hope he is.

I'm rooting for him but it's hard to say if the injury has permanently sapped some of his athleticism without seeing him in action. Gotta imagine the Rams will keep an eye out on the RB market if our RB room isn't as productive on the field or injuries hit again. We have a lot of potential back there but they've also all been injury prone thanks to the nature of the position.
