I know some here don't care for Turf Show Times, but here's an article from today.

Apparently McVay has said that Bruss would be moving to RT, which seems to imply he will be a backup to Hav, and not competing for the RG spot?

I saw another guy make a similar OL starting 5 projection. Admittedly it's speculation at this point. But based on practice reps with the first team, as of now it could be:

LT-- AJ
LG--Avila
C-- Shelton
RG--Anchrum
RT-- Hav

To me, if accurate, this makes sense and is not at all surprising.

At LT, I've always thought AJ outplayed Boom, by a significant margin.
At LG, ya gotta give the promising top pick a shot.
At C, I've always been underwhelmed by Allen, and rooting for Shelton.
At RG, I LOVED what Anchrum showed in preseason before his unlucky injury. If he wins the job though, how can we keep him in 2024? Will he be an UFA or a RFA, anyone know?
At RT, of course it's Hav.

Other notes: Bruss looked absolutely terrible in preseason last year, so to me it's not a huge surprise that he might not be a contender for a starting spot.

Boom is what he is at this point... a great backup, but maybe an underwhelming starter.

I for one would be stoked if this were our starting OL on opening day.

Thoughts?

The backup RT will be the person who doesn't win at LT McVay has said this already. If you look at the tweets from today's practice it is reinforced but Jackson starting at RT even though Bruss has been putting in time there with Hav out. Bruss is there for cross training so to speak as we know McVay wants versatility for all his OL especially the IOL guys.

I heard Boom has been getting looks at RG. Yea we know he is not a great run blocker but he is a solid pass protector so that might be something to watch.

At today's TC, Havenstien and Allen were given the day off. In 11 on 11, the first team OL was Noteboom LT, Avila LG, Shelton C, Anchrum RG and A Jackson RT.

I believe the starting OL at this point is AJackson LT, Avila LG, Allen C, Anchrum RG and Havenstien RT. If Havenstien goes down I think AJackson would take his place and Noteboom would take over at LT. Noteboom only played a few snaps at LG in order to give Anchrum a breathe rthe other day, Anchrum and Avila have taken almost every snap with the 1st team at RG and LG. Bruss has played mostly with the 2nd team at RT and he's done OK, but he's not ready for prime time there.

Hopefully McVay will play some of these guys in pre-season. Avila needs it for sure and the rest need it to form continuity, which they don;'t have much of yet.

They are treating this TC like OTAs and still moving people all over the place. But they were looking at Bruss quite a bit at RT in OTAs. But I think this goes back to last year. They drafted McClendon who looks the part of a RG. They don't use a 5th round pick for a backup OL. IMO they had their doubts last year before Bruss got hurt. I really feel that McClendon was drafted to start at RG.

Warren's build almost screams classic OG with his long 34.5" arms, 6'4" height and 306 lb weight with an ability to make second level blocks. That is exactly what you want in a RG. His feet are heavy with an inconsistent kick slide giving him problems in pass protection as an OT. This is why you immediately think RG.

Bruss was a pretty good OT in college so I'm not surprised they are looking at him at RT. That said I think if Noteboom nails down LT then Jackson will be swing OT this year but will be looked long and hard at as their RT of the future. Bruss could end up their long term swing OT.

The bottom line is I'm surprised they are still experimenting. The starting OL is going to need time to gel as a unit. IMO they need to settle who plays where now and get on with practicing as a unit to get that unit cohesion so necessary for a starting OL.

Starting OL:

LT Noteboom
LG Avila
C Allen
RG McClendon
RT Havenstein

Swing OT/OG Jackson,C/OG Shelton, C/OG McAllister, OT/OG Bruss

It wouldn't surprise me if McAllister is the starting center in 2024 going forward.

IMO I think they are closer to setting up their WR depth chart than the OL. Kupp, Jefferson and Nacua as their starting 3. Followed by Atwell, Showronek and probably Smith who will return kicks.

I think their #3 QB will be on the PS and that's likely to be Rypien.

If Noteboom starts the season at LT, I give him 4-6 games before he is injured. Then Jackson is the long term starter unless the clots become an issue again. Moving Bruss to RT makes sense. The Rams definitely need to develop some depth at tackle. Unfortunately they are probably going to need it.

I concur here barring injury as I see Allen being the starter at Center with Shelton being the first Center/Guard off the bench & Noteboom being the first tackle off the bench. Rams like Allen for his line calls, however, if Allen proves he cannot hold up for another year, Shelton will be the Center moving forward.

According to OTC he's a UFA

Yeah, Anchrum will be a UFA. We have a few RFA's and ERFA's. The significant RFA's we'll have are Akers and Jackson. Which gives us a decent chance at bringing them back or getting something in return next year.

I think Anchrum is a placeholder until McClendon is ready.

LT Noteboom
LG Avila
C Allen
RG McClendon
RT Havenstein

Swings, OT/OG Jackson and Bruss, C/OG Shelton and McAllister

Next year:

LT Noteboom
LG Avila
C Shelton or McAllister
RG McClendon
RT Jackson

Swings OT/OG Bruss, C/OG McAllister if he isn't starting, or Maginn if he is.

If Avila isn't destined for C, they'll draft one next year.

I think the preseason will determine the Noteboom/Jackson battle. Let's see who's the best anchor.

Bruss was a Right Tackle in college so the plan of moving him to Guard seems to be over. If he can protect against edge rushers he can be an asset.
LT Jackson/Noteboom/
LG Avila
C Shelton/Allen
RG Anchrum/McClendon
RT Havenstein/Bruss

They probably keep 9 O Linemen. Some to the practice squad. The competition between Shelton and Allen, Jackson and Noteboom is really a positive that should just make the unit better overall

OLD SCHOOL ONCE again is WRONG!!! Mcvay said it himself that Logan Bruss is staying Outside at RT!

I’ll find the report, but he talked about it on Thursday after practice. It was before Higbee spoke & Mcvay went over to him & talked with him & saw Higbee’s baby girl.

Not necessarily this time. Even though Bruss is exclusively learning RT, at this point he may be the third look. If Boom starts, Jackson is next in line at either LT or RT.
