He was recently quoted in the LA Times as saying:

"There was one instance where a player that we're thinking about at 87, a team took that position in the first round."

Who was he discussing? My guess is Rashaad Penny, curious what you guys think.

So you think we’re going runningback with our first pick?

I think defense but am usually wrong when it comes to Rams draft picks. So who knows.

My guess is he was part of the group of players stacked in that "around pick 87" neighborhood.

I have re-read Snead’s statement several times and I still can’t figure out what he’s even saying

Posters were commenting on it somewhere around here.

It's in the press conference. Just after 5 Minute mark.

You can drive yourself crazy trying to figure this one out.

69. New York Giants (from Buffalo Bills)
70. San Francisco 49ers (from Chicago Bears)
71. Denver Broncos
72. New York Jets
73. Miami Dolphins
74. San Francisco 49ers
75. Oakland Raiders
76. Green Bay Packers
77. Cincinnati Bengals-Billy Price C
78. Kansas City Chiefs (from Washington Redskins)No One
79. Arizona Cardinals-Rosen QB
80. Houston Texans (from Seattle Seahawks)-No One
81. Dallas Cowboys-Vande Esch LB
82. Detroit Lions-Frank Ragnow C
83. Baltimore Ravens-Hayden Hurst, TE Lamar Jackson QB
84. Los Angeles Chargers-Derwin James, S
85. Carolina Panthers (from Buffalo Bills)- D.J. Moore, WR
86. Kansas City Chiefs-No One
87. Los Angeles Rams

I filled in 10 picks before the Rams and don't see any position picked that the Rams would be interested in. Bengals taking OC Price and Lions taking OC Ragnow. No Edge guys.

I'd pay good money to see insider video of him and Fish clashing the way they were reportedly doing so down the stretch before Jeff was fired. They're so distinctly different that it had to have led to some funny @$$ moments between the two of them.

Terrell Edmunds maybe? He was a huge surprise pick.

He wasn't talking about a particular player. He said a team took a position earlier than they expected which would change how things fell to them. Doing this might adjust who they target at 87.

None in the first were falling to #87 no way possible. It had to be a player that I assume we would have had to trade up for to a degree maybe end of second top of third.

This is one I found very surprising, and Billy Price! Although I don't think the Rams would go after them at #87!!(y);)

I also found the TE Haden Hurst pick odd, there are better TE's out there! JMHO

I think he is saying a team took a position player early and would not take that position again before the Rams. The Rams have a player in mind at 87. Snead does NOT think the team would draft a player at the same position in round 3.

Starts around 4:45 of the presser above.

EDIT: added NOT above later.

I think all he was saying was team x picked a position in the 1st that they thought they'd be picking later and which just might free up a player they like at that position since they wouldn't expect that team to double dip at the position. For example, the Broncos went with an Edge when they were expected to go QB and they already have Von Miller so not likely to go Edge again.

"player that we're thinking about at 87" -- G Braden Smith
"a team took that position in the first round" -- Colts drafted G (Quenton Nelson)

don't @ me about "experts" saying Smith will go sooner, I want Saffold and his cap hit replaced (sooner or later). Smith, according to "experts", is a day one starter. Auburn connection. Colts drafting the G position in the first round makes it less likely (but still possible) of going G in the 3d round -- it's about game planning/projecting/stacking the board if you read the rest of what Snead said.

Yes the presser I posted last night in another thread, I'm familiar with it :) I think people are reading way to much into the partial quote that's been thrown around.

Snead could just be sending everyone on a wild goose chase. Hope he explains it later on after the pick. Some reporter better ask him.:)

My guess is that a team that he expected to start a run on a position didn't do so and that pushed the run further down the board .

Man, that's a tough one. So vague. We'll never solve it. We'd have a better chance solving this:
