Sorry I know I've posted about this subject several times, but this actually had an archive video on an interview with Bill Walsh. As a kid I was going on 12 in September of 78 and I really wanted Bill Walsh because I loved his offense at Stanford.

When they hired George Allen I was somewhat disappointed because I felt Knox was too conservative on offense & Allen was not much better and I wanted the Rams to hire an Offensive Coach. Then after a player revolt plus two straight preseason losses to New England & San Diego Rosenbloom fired Allen and promoted the befuddled Ray Malavasi, who always wore a windbreaker even if it was 100 degrees. Thus now we had Malavasi instead of Walsh and I was truly disappointed in so many ways.

One more tidbit and this for @Loyal Walsh actually said that he could've made Pat Haden as good as Joe Montana, now I don't think so because Montana was much taller than Haden, Montana was 6'2 & Haden 5'10, but Walsh did say that.

Funny...I still remember it like it was yesterday, reading the newspaper in my parent's garage waiting for the bus for school on the hiring of George Allen. Then in August of 78 while working out in the morning in that same garage (weights) in disbelieve that the Rams had fired George Allen after two preseason games and hired Ray Malavasi...That was a sad day for me.

Allen, hired to replace Chuck Knox as the Rams' coach last February, had lost both preseason games, 14-7 to New England in the opener and 17-0 to San Diego Saturday.

"It is my feeling that I have made a serious error in judgment in believing George Allen could work within our framework," Rosenbloom said in a prepared statement. "It has been extremely difficult for him to adjust to a new situation.

"Unquestionably he is a fine coach and administrator. His record speaks for itself. However, I'm certain it's in the best interest of all concerned to make this change at this time."

The Rams' training camp has been marked by grumbling from several players over Allen's long practices, and several key players have not taken part in some of the workouts.

Allen was fired by the Washington Redskins last January after he and team President Edward Bennett Williams couldn't agree on a new contract.

Although Allen had a 67-30-1 record in Washington, making him the most successful coach in the Redskins' history, the major hitch in his signing a new contract here was Williams' desire to have more say in the team's financial matters and personnel.

When Allen remained adamant in wanting to maintain the status quo, he was fire and Jack Pardee hired as coach.

Allen, 56, had been the Rams' coach earlier, guiding the team for five seasons from 1966 to 1970. He was fired by the club's president, the late Dan Reeves, and went to Washington.

Imagine if Pat Haden won 4 Super Bowls with Bill Walsh? You still would be wearing his jersey, instea of just on game day…l

@den-the-coach Holy shit Den, you were 12 and new about Offensive Coordinators etc? Lol That’s very impressive! I didn’t know anything about difference in coaches until high school! Lol or even consider anything else outside of rooting for my team! Lol

Anyways, I love talking about our Rams with those older to learn more about the team you don’t really read or find information for out there. That video sounds like Walsh was all over us…

I do believe if Bill Walsh was hired that the Rams would have won a Super Bowl in 78 or 79 with his offense and the caveat that he still would have drafted Montana for the Rams.

As to the drowning of Carroll Rosenbloom, one can surmise that still took place, but maybe after Georgia fired Steve Rosenbloom (who Carroll wanted to take over) & Dick Steinberg, she might have turned to Head Coach Bill Walsh as GM over the departed Don Klosterman. I guess we will never know that outcome, but I will always believe Carroll Rosenbloom liked Walsh and wanted to go in that direction, but felt Allen was more ready and George Allen really wanted to return to Los Angeles and that is why he played hard ball with Redskin Owner Edward Bennett Williams at the time.

Rams' Owner Fires Stepson​

Steve Rosenbloom, executive vice president of the Los Angeles Rams, was fired today by his stepmother.
Rosenbloom, whose father, Carroll, owned the Rams until he drowned last April 2, was fired by Georgia Rosenbloom, the new owner of the team.

He will be replaced by Don Klosterman, who served as vice president and general manager under both owners.

A statement issued by the Rams said "basic differences in philosophies" led to the firing. Steve Rosenbloom had been vice president in charge of day to day operations for the past year.
"Georgia will continue to administer the entire Rams' organization following the wishes and dictates of her late husband, Carroll Rosenbloom," the statement said. "All of their philosophies and policies will continue as a part of Carroll's legacy."

There reportedly has been much tension at the top levels of the team since Georgia Rosenbloom took over as owner following her husband's death. Steve, Carroll's son by a former marriage, had been heavily involved in running the team while his father was alive.

Klosterman served as vice president and general manager under both owners, but his powers were diluted when Director of Player Personnel Dick Steinberg was given the major say in the Rams' drafting and trade moves.

Georgia, 42, became the Rams' master majority owner (70 percent), after her husband's death. Steve, 34, inherited just 6 percent of the team -- the same as four other Rosenbloom children -- despite his active role in running the club in recent years.

Quite a bit of speculation on that, some of it over the top. In fairness, I'm all about routines and Carroll Rosenbloom swam every morning when he was in Florida. Now I know they even made a movie about how men waited in SCUBA gear on a boat and waited for the guy to swim and then pulled him underwater to make it look like an accidental death.

I never believed foul play, stuff happens and again I know it was reported the waters might have been rough that day, but if I had swam for years and it was a nice day not sure I would pay attention to that either. Again, it's speculation.

I was 20 1/2 when he passed and had been a RAMS fanatic since I was 10. The local ABC affiliate in Augusta Georgia had a gentlemen named Pat Mulherin who headed the sports department and he did the 11:00 evening sports segment. I was lying on the couch on the verge of sleep when he broadcast the news of the drowning. My recollection is that I thought, "the old man kicked the bucket, damn." So, anyway I move to the bedroom for a more comfortable nights sleep. During the night, I entered REM and found myself in a body of water submerged up to my eyes and the feeling was, initially, quite tranquil. In short order, though, the water became choppy, and there was a sinister vibe that crept into the dream. After a little more time passed, I bolted upright in bed to find the sheet completely soaked Bilocation, anyone? ESP?

Wow, that was something. Again I never gave much thought to the concept of CR being murdered, but I do remember Fred Dryer saying something about it and CR I guess owed money, but again never gave much thought.

I always wondered what it would have been like with Steve Rosenbloom running the team. He got his shot in New Orleans and did not fair well, but Carroll Rosenbloom trained him and it would have been good to see how it went with the younger Rosenbloom, but I don't believe Georgia was going to go in that direction, however, I believe John Shaw got in her ear and gave her the insight to do so.

Plenty of what ifs but I'm so glad we have Kroenke, McVay and Snead. We're in that ERA where the Rams could win 4-5 super bowls if the management team stays intact.
