New York has always had a hold of the sports world. The Yankees, Dodgers and Giants until the late 50's. The Knicks, Rangers and Football Giants. Now it's the Yanks, Mets, Giants, Jets (if you group North Jersey with NYC....I don't), Knicks, Nets, Islanders and Rangers. That's a lot of history there. Chicago with the Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks. A whole lotta history there too. Los Angeles has had the Rams, Chargers, Raiders, Dodgers, Angels, Lakers, Kings and Clippers.

Where would we look next? Philadelphia? The Phillies, Eagles, Sixers and Flyers? Atlanta? The Braves, Falcons and Hawks? They had the Flames for a while in the NHL. Washington? The Redskins, Senators (twice), Bullets, Wizards, Capitals and Nationals. But how about Boston? Now that the Patriots have become the ultimate football franchise, Beantown has some historical franchises. The Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. Man, it doesn't get much better than that. What say you? What cities have I missed?

Is Tampa the new title town... The Lightning, the Bucs and maybe the Rays this season?

Texas:

Houston because they are boasting the Texans...err wait nevermind. At least the Oilers were a thing. Rockets...maybe 20 years ago. Astros! Here we go....actually I don't think very many take too kindly to the 'stros Dynamo! Does anyone care???

Dallas is a good sports city. All the teams have some sort of history or national relevance almost every year.

Nah

Their fans suck. Especially the fans of the baseball team that is actually in St Petersburg... NOT Tampon. Nobody goes to those games even when they are winning. The hockey team has a good following, but it’s in St Pete too.

Tampon buc fans are the biggest bandwagon bitches ever. Many of their "fans" now were actually cheater fans before last year. Ray-J has been basically empty during games for years.

Fuck Tampon

Have to give it up for Cleveland as IMO, their fans were always gracious and Lord knows what they have been through. Some tough times burning LeBron in effigy, but welcoming him back with open arms. Tough city, with horrendous weather, but their fans are loyal in all my experiences in that city, it's not the mistake by the lake.

Atlanta fans are spoiled with new stadiums. Im not sure they earned them. Plus they dont support as well as could be expected.

Even though Im from LA and am Dodgers, Lakers, Rams all the way, Id have to go with Boston bevause they love thier teams so much.

Pittsburgh has gotta be up there too.

I'm biased, but when it comes to baseball and hockey, St. Louis has the best fanbase.

just going to chime in here to mention this

I dont think the OP @PARAM was talking about the cities with the best fans, but the best sports cities as in the franchises based in those cities.

Im sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but go back and read the first post, no mention of fans at all

Well its says “Best Sport Cities”so I assumed it to be all of it combined. Not just fans but fans could play a factor in being a true “great sports city”, Several citys have the 4 major sports teams, that would just put everyone in a tie for first until you start thinking of communitiy, traditions, championships and winning cultures.

Pitt should get a nod despite not having an NBA team. Theyve got championships or epic teams in Football, Baseball, and Hocky. I mean you gotta go back a bit but the history is there. IMO

Is Oakland a great sports city? I would say despite the Raiders rich history, the recent Warriors, and the bash brothers of the 80’s A’s, Eckersly and Bean ball, no that city sucks at supporting thier teams and for that reason is not a great Sports city.

Chicago is a great Sports city despite a lifelong failure of the Cubs until recently. Its because of the local scenes, the endless support, the big white W’s in everyones windows, that Ivy, even Harry. Not just the bulls and blackhawks. Fuck the Bears and 1985. That city is all about the Cubs and that area around Wrigley Field. And to me, thats enough to make it an endearing sports city.

I dunno, thats how I view great sports cities. And its just an opinion.
