Bernie: Developing players should be Rams' goal
Bernie Miklasz
Fisher and Snead deserve a grace period, but only to a point. There are two standards for evaluation in 2012. One is the team's record. The other is about making progress. And no, they're not the same. I'll try to explain.
[hil]If you believe the 2012 Rams have the horses to go at least 8-8, that's unreasonable.[/hil] Fisher and Snead were hired to build a program the right way. They weren't hired to perform a quick-fix miracle. The Rams can't be saved by a Heimlich maneuver; this sickly patient must be nursed back to health over time.
[hil]Fisher and Snead aren't cleaning up one mess; they are cleaning up after three messes.[/hil] I'm talking about the hideous drafts and horrendous personnel decisions made by the three previous regimes: Mike Martz and Jay Zygmunt; Scott Linehan and Zygmunt; Steve Spagnuolo and Billy Devaney.
If you think this is an easy turnaround, you might want to dilute the Kool-Aid. But if you think Fisher and Snead should get a free pass for 2012, that's also unreasonable. I won't be doing that, either.

I don't get that last paragraph. First he says 8-8 is unreasonable. That would be a .500 season. Then he says you shouldn't expect a quick turnaround (which would be .500 or better), and you shouldn't give them a free pass (a season worse than .500). So what's an acceptable record?
Oh. Alrighty then.

Bernie Miklasz said:But if you're asking for me to quantify the progress by putting a number on it, I can't do it.
Oh. Alrighty then.
