Disagree with all of those players aside from Shoeless Joe suddenly being eligible. There's not even proof of him being guilty; just a desperate Hail Mary from another Black Sox member to lessen his own punishment.

Rose made a mockery of the game, gambling as a player and manager, betting on his own games and was completely unrepentant until he died. I don't even care that he's also a terrible person because while I understand that being a terrible person and a great player is not mutually exclusive, him gambling from the start until he got banned and being unrepentant about that is not HOF worthy. Make a plaque about the hits leader, but with an asterisk.

The rest of the Black Sox should've never been unbanned. Completely unrepentant about their role and they threw Jackson under the bus when he had the best series out of the entire team and likely never was a part of the plan.

just because they are eligible now, doesn't necessarily mean they will get voted in

And if Rose is in, might as well let Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Sosa, Palmiero, and every other convicted cheater in as well. That's the floodgates they're opening. Jackson is an entirely different case from Rose and the rest of the Black Sox; there was no evidence linking him to anything other than possibly knowing about the fix - and never any linking him to participating in the fix.

The only saving grace is that Kenesaw Mountain Landis's skeletal corpse is probably thrashing around and screaming in his coffin from Manfred getting in bed with gambling.

It's a gigantic problem with society now... morality and consequences have been purposefully attacked to the point that many people don't even know what they are.

Some things should simply be unforgivable and there should be penalties that fit the crime. If you don't stand for anything, what does that make you?

These degenerates only deserve to be in the HOF for scumbags.

Pete Rose the ball player should have always been in the HOF
Pete Rose the manager should not have been
There are a lot of folks in the HOF who were shitty people after their ball-playing careers ended

I am so torn on this one. As a child Pete Rose was one of my favorite players. For many years I always thought Pete got a raw deal. Always thought he should be in the Hall of Fame. As an adult now and seeing this news, it troubles me he could now get in. He manipulated his pitching staff and sacrificed games so he could win bets. I know there is a case to be made he was clean as a player and dirty as a manager....again parts that I am torn on.

Remember, he was a player/manager for several years, and set the hits record as a first baseman when he could not hit at a major league level - but played himself so he could set the record. Incidentally, the Reds finished just behind the Dodgers those years.

Couldnt hit at major league level? He was an all star in 1985 at 44 years old and batted .265, which was 3rd highest on the team.
Discrediting anything Rose did as a player is just ludicrous

At a power position Rose had a slugging percentage of .319 that year. His offensive winning percentage at a hitting position was .345 - pathetic for a first baseman. He should have been retired, but as manager he played himself - leading the team to finish behind the Dodgers.

That's just silly.
First you say he couldnt hit, which he could now you're moving the goal posts? The guy was amazing, as a player. Piece of shit as a human being but at least can seperate the two
I guess Rod Carew was a power hitter?

Rose had 2 hrs the final ASG year. Triples and doubles were rare also. He had only 46 RBIs that year, which is pathetic, especially for a 1b. He should have retired several years before when he couldn't hit like a major leaguer, and was literally horrible fielding as a first basemen - which at the time was where you stuck statues who could still hit.

He should have retired years before and made the hall of fame as a good player. Instead he became a player/manager who pencilled himself in the lineup to get a record even though he stunk by that point, and played and probably cost his team a pennant or two.

He could still hit. And did.
.264 with a .395 ob%
Earned an all star bid
Pete Rose never hit for power, only avg 6 hr per 162 game season and 60 RBI
He played because Tony Perez couldnt and when he kept hitting, he kept playing.
It was a great story at the time
They had their 1st winning season in 5 years
Discrediting it now is just a joke. Again, he was a POS but still was admirable on the diamond
