I guess I could try and repurpose some diagramming software, but football would have certain things already in place. Not just the Xs and Os, but the grid, the lines and curves for routes, how to terminate routes if the route is a block or multiple block (some blockers are meant to just hit one guy, then get to the next level, others, in a Zone Blocking Scheme may need to go low on a guy versus "stand him up")
Those all have little notations. Not that I already know them all, but there are times when I want to describe a play or breakdown something and I find that I have to write a novella when 2-3 images would be better.
Anyone know of anything? I'm sure there's got to be a coach or two out there who uses something?
