has anyone tried this? How does it compare to Netflix? I used to love Netflix for the streaming, but it's gotten shitty over the years. Was wondering is Prime was any better.

Its not. I got prime for the shipping, but the video services suck. Shame because they bought a bunch of stuff from Netflix. The problem with prime is they will have early stuff like normal, just watch it, but then they charge money for the newer stuff, about two bucks an episode typically. Which is bullshit in my opinion.

I like it a lot. I run on an Amazon Fire TV stick (and a PS3 downstairs). It's got its own original content, which isn't bad, and it has some stuff that Netflix doesn't.

Where it really shines, though, is as a rental/purchase program. You can buy for like $2 an episode shows that aren't on Netflix streaming (or Prime free streaming). Plus the free stuff is nice, plus the free Amazon shipping is great.

I have Amazon Prime, but only for free shipping (which is worth it, in my opinion). I wouldn't get Amazon Prime for video services, it's expensive and not worth it. I would use Netflix for streaming, but again that's my opinion

I like Amazon Prime a lot. It's nice for shipping, the video service isn't too bad. It has things Netflix doesn't and vice versa. There is also a music service as well. It's only $99 and includes a lot. I think it's worth it.

It's like a Costco membership. If you're a frequent shopper at Amazon then you've already made your money's worth. It's $5.99 for two-day shipping without Prime so at least 9 separate purchases already meets the value of the membership.

I'm a big fan of Amazon Prime -- me and the wife order enough stuff from Amazon each year that the waived shipping charges justifies the membership price.

As far as the free video goes: if you think the Prime membership gets you free access to the entire video collection, then you're gonna be disappointed. But there's a good amount of free videos you get to watch, plus some stuff that's not available on Netflix (original series like Alpha House and Bosch are worth checking out, plus the first 2 seasons of Orphan Black and the Americans).

Then there's Prime Music -- lots of free music to stream. In one shot, I had access to a bunch of classic rock albums (Eagles, Kansas, Journey....stuff I always liked, but maybe not enough to drop the coin on).

Been a Prime subscriber for the last 2 years, and I intend to renew. If you're on the fence, I believe you can sign up for a 30-day trial.

Justified and Vikings as well. It has a bunch of HBO stuff as well. Not quite the selection of Netflix but I think they often have more classic movies than Netflix.

I use Amazon all the time.... to me Prime is worth it for the shipping.

I put all the materials for jobs I buy on a credit card, and by the end of the year I have a boatload of points on that card that I do Christmas shopping with. Whatever points are left I end donating to charity at the end of the year. Already I have almost 25000 points just this quarter alone. Too bad I cant pay me quarterly taxes with my points LOL

I don't have it (my son and my GF d0) because I don't really have enough shipments to make it worthwhile.

That being said, every time I go to video and try to find domething recent, it's $$$$$$

Just annoying to me... and I don't even subscribe

the girlfriend gives a thumbs up to amazon. she buys enough online items to make the shipping "pay" for the yearly fee (she buys these items regularly making anyway), all of amazon's movies, etc are online, and says this is a fairly big thing to consider as well since we technically arent "paying" for the service because of their free shipping.

amazon has free music downloads and 1 free kindle book per month as well. as for available shows, thats basically personal choice (which we have both netflix and amazon anyway).

netflix is more convenient to use in her opinion and has a personalized list for each person who ordered movies (both of us , me, her) whereas amazon has 1 list for everyone. however, sometimes netflix has to use dvd's that they mail to you for movie choices. hd movies have a charge, blu-ray has another charge so that adds up.

amazon keeps a list of everything you have purchased (including music, other non movie/show items) . amazon is tied into IMDB (internet movie data base) so you can check out movie previews and tv show reviews as well. they link this via email. thus, she can watch anything while at work, which i guess is a good thing if not caught.

Prime here too for the shipping. Just don't use the video because of the charges for most things I would want to watch. Netflix is better to me.

I just let my prime lapse.

The free 2 day shipping is the biggest draw of prime, but the video service is comparable to netflix, with nearly all the same shows.
