When you think your team is so far away from winning a Super Bowl.

Think again.

Every team is virtually one play or a move away from the Ring.

If Bill Walsh had his way in the 79 draft he would of taken Phil Simms

With his first pick but NY beat him to it.

So Walsh with his first pick of the draft took a running back that turned out to be a bust.

So in the third round he took Montana.

Who knows where Montana would of fallen if the "Genius" had his way.

And would the Niners be the team of the 80's (winning 4 SB's) with Simms instead of
Montana.

1980 and 83 SB's

The Raiders started the 1980 season with a 2-3 record.

In the sixth game their starting QB Dan Pastorini breaks his leg.

So a washed up has been they got on waivers has to start.

His name is Jim Plunkett.

He wins the Raiders the SB that season (and was Super Bowl MVP)

And another two years later.

THE DALLAS DYNASTY

The Vikings thought they were just one player from being SB Champions.

That player was Herschel Walker.

So they traded their future by giving the Cowboys six top draft choices.

With those picks the Cowboys became a dynasty winning three SB.

By the way, the Vikings waived Walker just one year later

THE PATS DYNASTY

The Pats were 0-2 to start the 2001 season.

In the third game their starting QB, Drew Bledsoe, gets knocked out of the game with a concussion.

A sixth round pick named Tom Brady becomes the starting QB.

All he does is make the Pats SB champions that same year.

And makes NE a dynasty by winning two more.

RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME

The Pats were offering twice what the Rams were for Marshall Faulk.

But, the Colts were not going to trade him to a division rival.

So the Rams got him.

And if Trent Green is not standing at that spot to get his season ending injury a guy named Warner never leaves the bench.

Not one of those teams were even thought of making the Playoffs

All it took was one incident to become dynasties.

So remember all it takes is one incident and were back on top

The only trouble is I don't know what is the incident

Having the NFL marketing machine behind an 'anointed' team also helps, but the invisible hand is never part of the analysis.

The Falcons still look to me to be the best marketing story next yr, with Gonzalez and SJ retiring with rings.

Sorry, ramzrdu, I don't recall any of this. I REFUSE to recall any of this.

I agree that you never know how a season is going to unfold. No matter how cruddy the RAMS have been, I always go into the opener with some hope of reaching the Super Bowl. Ironically, the only time I've been real down on the RAMS, going into game 1 of the regular season, was the 1999 season.
