I wanted to see how much free agents we are going to have next off season an I was shocked at the amount! I knew we had some key players coming up but a lot of role players are coming up as well. I don't know if we'll be able to keep 3/4 of the average-good ones. I'm curious how this plays out. Any thoughts?

How many of those are really going to get good deals? Jenkins, Quick, maybe Foles if he is far better than last year, Fairly (although probably not here) but most is just depth.

Yes but we have several starters on that list including Barron/Mcleod, Foles, Jenkins, Quick, Greg the Leg, maybe Tru and many key backups that are decent to good quality. I wonder who we keep and who we let walk

It will all depend on Foles, if he plays like last year we should have plenty of money to re-sign our FAs.

I think we are aiming to sign him early in the 14-16 range regardless of how the season prevails TBH. They are working on a contract currently...I want to be Demmoff's assistant. @Kevin D you hiring? I'm awesome are making pictures on top of your coffee!

out of that list, the only ones I think are most certainly getting a deal are: Quick, Jenkins, Foles, Mcleod, Cunningham, Hayes, Zuerlein

Everyone else is a gamble. Too many camp battles and new players that could take jobs (like Ayers over Dunbar, maybe some of these UDFA's push some ST players off the bubble, etc.)

We might have to do a rebuilding of the DL and secondary depends on how FA goes. Chris Long is getting older, and so after this season we might end up cutting him, not re-signing Hayes and Sims, and not re-signing Fairley. That's A LOT gone if it ends up like that. And then with Janoris and Tru hitting FA too, along with two important safeties in McLeod and Barron, we might need to invest a lot in those positions if we don't end up keeping them either.

Let's hope we can keep these guys on deals that they think are fair.

Yea, I think this will work itself out.

The only ones I really want to keep are Jenkins, TruJo, McCleod, GZ and either Sims or Hayes.

Quick, Foles, Fairley - depends on how they play this year.

The rest are easily replaceable

Long's contract ends in 2017 so I could see us drafting a highly touted rookie next year and letting him grow kinda like AD and Quinn kinda had a easy first year to get things together. We'd save some coin but I'm hesitant to let go of CL.

True. Really depends on the cap situation too. Who knows how much room we'll have when we have to pay all these guys, especially Foles. We have a lot right now, but you never know. I agree though, would hate to let go of Long if we didn't have to.

This is why @kdemoff is paid the big bucks though.

An excellent perspective post on this topic by AlbaNY_Ram...

Here's AlbaNY_Ram...

According to this site the Rams have 15 UFAs to deal with after this season. [www.spotrac.com]

Is that so unusual? If you look at a hypothetical 53 man roster where every player has a 4 year contract wouldn't you expect 13 or 14 players a year to come up for renewal? If so then the Rams 'predicament' looks pretty average.

That same site actually makes the Rams look a bit better than average. That site says the NFL will have 570 UFAs in 2016 - an average of almost 18 per team. So yeah, the Rams have 'a lot' of UFAs to deal with. So does every team in the league, many with more UFAs to deal with than the Rams!!!

2016 UFAs by team :

ARI 19
ATL 12
BAL 14
BUF 13
CAR 21
CHI 24
CIN 23
CLE 15
DAL 14
DEN 22
DET 25
GB 14
HOU 15
IND 17
JAC 12
KC 20
MIA 15
MIN 17
NE 18
NO 17
NYG 26
NYJ 28
OAK 18
PHI 19
PIT 16
SD 15
SF 15
SEA 22 (Russell Okung (LT), Brandon Mebane (DT), Tony McDaniel (DT), Bruce Irvin (OLB ), Ahtyba Rubin (DT), Jermaine Kearse (WR), J.R. Sweezy (G), Tavaris Jackson (QB ), Jon Ryan (P), Bobby Wagner (ILB ), Michael Morgan (OLB ), Greg Scruggs (DE), Robert Turbin (RB ), Anthony McCoy (TE), Jeremy Lane (CB ), Will Blackmon (CB ), Wll Tukuafu (FB ), Lemuel Jeanpierre (C), Demarcus Dobbs (DE), Ricardo Lockette (WR), Deshawn Shead (S), D'Anthony Smith (DT))
STL 15
TB 14
TEN 17
WAS 17

Are the Rams exposed on the DL with Fairley, Hayes, and Sims scheduled for UFA? Perhaps, but there are 89 other DL also scheduled for FA.

Are the Rams exposed at CB with Johnson and Jenkins scheduled for UFA? Perhaps, but there are 70 other CBs also scheduled for FA.

How about WR where Quick and Givens are scheduled for UFA? 57 other WRs will also be UFAs next year.

Locking up Foles seems like a must and it would be great to retain a bunch of the other FAs as well, but it seems like there will be a lot of competition for the Rams' FAs that might look else where and a lot of potential replacements if the Rams want to fill some gaps thru FA.

We know these guys so well, we want to keep everyone.

Just not possible.

I'd wait until the end of this year to make any decisions. ;)

Rams will keep the ones that raise the bar this year. Snead and Fish are big on upside and that will factor in on the rest of the guys, that and how much they think they're worth.

One other thing to keep in mind. This past year we saw a $10 million jump from $123 to $133 million. Most people are estimating that it will jump at least another $10 million a year for 3 or 4 years, possibly more a couple of them. Remember the large share each team got from the TV contracts. As that goes up the salary cap will go up per the CBA with the players union. It's not going to be easy to keep everybody but the cap will increase substantially in the next few years.

True.

There might be some wiggle room by extending Chris Long too.

It sucks that's were going to start losing good talent just as the team is ready to turn the corner. Bradford's injury set the team back, but I guess the silver lining in this is the players that we do keep are hitting their prime.
