Okay I have done the all 22 (and btw Merlin - it is a ton better this year) on the first half.

My thoughts.

I don't know what people are screaming about on Shelton but he did not have a bad game in the first half at least.

He made every block and his guy never got to Stafford on passing downs.

Only one time that I am not sure what the play was but Shelton was too late on a block where Havenstein didn't even chip his guy when he ran to the right.

I think it was a broken play and Stafford did his left hand into the ground on that play. It was a really weird play.

Edit - okay there was one play where Shelton should have helped Allen on a guy but went to help Havenstein instead. And Allen's guy beat him but also Noteboom's guy beat him too.

I think Shelton should have taken Allen's guy and Allen should have helped Noteboom and Edwards

Robinson - he was open on a few plays but Stafford went to his guy Kupp who was also open on the same plays.

There was one pass that I felt Stafford should have gone to Robinson because he had one step deep on the CB. That's the type of throw Robinson thrives on.

And Stafford didn't do it.

But this play drives me crazy. RIght before the end of the half - Stafford had Robinson going to the right and Stafford held onto the ball. It looked like it would be an easy toss too. Just throw it.

And people are right - they ran on first down almost every time.

The Rams also only tossed to the left one time in the first half and it went for their longest run.

Their offensive game plan sucked.

But I have to say Edwards was the problem in that game on passing plays not Shelton - at least in the first half.

Okay - second half now

Another one where Stafford should have thrown the ball to Robinson. I just don't know what was in Stafford's head that night.

Eh, that's a hard one. There's a defender right in front of Arob that could easily switch direction and close in, or if Stafford is slightly off it could be picked.

Glad to hear they fixed their shit but I didn't pay for it this year so will live vicariously through RoD members. :laugh1:

You're a dedicated fan to review that one. Doesn't surprise me that Edwards was bad, some of his lowlights are all over twitter. Does surprise me that Shelton wasn't terrible, but that's the value in tape so good to know. :clinkingbeer:

I looked at the entire play and Robinson was open until the very end

Not going to review any more since Buffalo went up 24-10 after this and Stafford threw a no look interception on the next drive and then Buffalo went up 31-10 and that just changes the entire flow once they are up that far.

But I did not see any really bad play by Shelton other than he might have taken the wrong guy and that's communication that can be worked on.

Shelton had a pretty good game if not for that.

Havenstein Allen and Shelton were by far the best players out there on the OL.

It was Edwards and Noteboom who screwed up that game.

And Noteboom - I give a pass since first game going against a HOF who looked really speedy that night and used his veteran tricks to get his sacks.

I usually review the really bad games because I want to know if we were terrible or if it was just an off night that can easily be fixed.

I believe this can be easily fixed especially once Stafford becomes more comfortable with Robinson.

And when the rush is getting to Stafford - get the ball out earlier

Sounds like Stafford was rusty as hell if you ask me. He needs to pull his head out of his butt next go round. Edwards played horrible and makes me wonder maybe we should have kept Corbett over him? I agree on Notebook getting a pass vs Von, but he definitely needs to improve from here on out. Hopefully Boom's injury isn't as bad as it sounded.

I've been saying it every week for the past several years. STOP with all these bs inside run plays for 2 yards a pop. Toss it OUTSIDE, let these guys use their speed and finesse and watch us start gaining bigger chunks per run play. It's like the coaches are too stubborn to go away from what's not working just for the sake of trying to prove themselves right.

Noteboom had a tough time but why wasn’t McVay giving him help more? Also can call short plays like everyone does against our rush.

One other thing I want to point out

A lot of the sacks (not all) appeared to be miscommunication sacks.

I think a lot of that is not playing any preseason games and getting their communication together.

Against a team like Buffalo, you better use quick passes if you aren't going to have any preseason practice for the starters.

There were times where Edwards could have used some help by Allen and have Shelton take on a rusher by himself.

A couple of times Shelton went to help Havenstein and Havenstein didn't need any help.

Again that is communication and knowing assignments.

Something that can definitely be worked on.

But I want to stress that I did not see Shelton blow a block once he had hooked onto an opposing defensive player.

As to their run game blocking, I agree with a couple posters that it appeared that we kept attacking Buffalo's strength up the middle when we should have gone outside more. We were only getting two or three yards a pop up the middle.

With @Kupped and appreciate the review.

It would be interesting to know how much the starting Bill played in pre-season.

If got a respectable amount of snaps this may have been more predictable than I thought.

That second one @Tano showed of Robinson was right in front of us. We all saw it and my SOFI Ramily all wondered what the hell?

Common comments in my circle was the absence of Cam, we laughed when someone asked what the guess was on the play on first down cause we all knew and it became a joke, why no passes to Robinson and the highlight of the game was that freaking kick to end the half. I swear it could have gone another 10 yards and still been easily good.

They have whatever technology they have to estimate the distance it would have been good from and I'm pretty sure they said 68 yards
