On espn this morning the question was what team should adopt the Rams model of team building?
I thought this was pretty hilarious since only last week this was a unorthodox risky strategy the Rams front office was using which never works in football, except when it’s Tom Brady.
The second question was is it a failure if the Rams stink next year, which is also pretty hilarious.
No one seems to know what to make of this team which is great maybe they’ll get a couple more rings before they figure it out.

IMO, I think the Rams can try to do what the Buccaneers did and bring most of the players back and barring injury, I would put our group up against any team in the NFL.

If they can bring back Beckham & Woods, hoping that Beckham can return from injury and even if they cannot resign Miller, maybe they bring back Dante Fowler I like the Rams chances moving forward. I am anxious to see the new coaching staff and if they are able to create some cap room, plus look at the Offensive Line, but right now the Los Angeles Rams are the only team that can repeat as champions plus the 2023 Super Bowl will be in Arizona and the Rams play well there.

In order to put together a team through trades that can win the SB, the team already must be good to very good. The number of picks that you can exchange is limited, so you need to have a solid core. Other teams must also be willing to trade their stars and they must fit into the system.
It's definitely doable but it's not as easy as the media might think. The Rams FO did a very good job.

It’s been mentioned here before but the fact that our front office is hitting on some of the later round picks allows us to make the moves we make. We have a different way of viewing the draft and draft capital and I don’t think a lot of teams have that same mindset. It also helps that we have an all world player in Donald, an all world coach in McVay and a GM in Snead who isn’t afraid to show the NFL how big his balls are.

With OJB just starting rehab, it's almost certain Rams keep Woods. He just does so much more than catching passes and is integral to the Rams offense. A WR room with Kupp, Woods, Jefferson, OJB, Skowronik and Atwell all healthy will be the top WR corps in the NFL.

If Whit retires, Noteboom steps in at LT. Corbett can be by replaced. Anchrum, Bewer or FA.

Add another FA db.

Going into next with season a healthy RB corps and just a few changes they will be set to make a stronger SB run.

Even if it really only did work for one year, it did yield a Super Bowl championship. Isn't that the goal?

This. The Stafford trade made it all worth it. And he will be with us for a few more years. So we should be a legit contender for a while. I won't say more championships because it takes some good fortune to go all the way. Or bad fortune to fall short. But we have as good a shot as anyone else now.

The irony is that it's worked for multiple years.

In 2018, prior to the season, we traded picks for Cooks, Peters and Talib - the subsequent draft we didn't pick until the third round.

A few years later, we won it all.

In between we traded for Fowler, Ramsey, Stafford and Miller.

I don't really respect many of the "Experts"

I think many are arrogant and lazy; and they ignore the facts for their simple Narrative.

That makes the Narrative incomplete and miss-leading at best; and completely inaccurate at worst.

The Rams traded two (projected) late #1s (and they turned-out to be late) for arguably the best Defensive Back in the NFL as he was entering the prime of his career. Then they traded two more (projected) late #1s (this year's will be #32 overall) for a significant up-grade at the most important position on a team ... QB.

The Rams were aggressive and went for a Super Bowl in 2021.
However, they did NOT "push all their chips into the center of the table".
When you do that and lose, you don't get to play another hand. You have to leave the table because you don't have any more money. If the Rams had lost in the NFC Championship or the Super Bowl, it would have been disappointing but they still would have been projected as one of the top NFC contenders heading into 2022.

The "Experts" False-Narrative about the Rams' Strategy ignores facts that do not fit their Narrative:
... Rams have been, and continue to be, one of the youngest teams in the NFL,
... Rams have had more total draft choices than all but one NFL team since McVay was hired,
... Rams roster has a relatively high number of players they drafted and signed as undrafted FAs, and
... Rams do not partake in high-level Free Agency (only DeSean Jackson was signed last off-season)

I think our model works because most teams aren’t doing it. Once the entire league starts saying “fuck them picks” the strategy won’t be as potent as it is now. Also really want to see teams trade all their draft picks and forget to stock up on late round picks.

The Rams keep going against the grain and the league follows
- The Rams more than anybody made preseason games irrelevant, no starters play. Period. If you're playing in pre-season, its not a good sign
- The Rams didnt sign unrestricted free agents, waited for released guys or made trades for players on last year of deal as to increase their comp picks
- The Rams draft pick trading strategy appears to be a quantity over quality thing in the way they turn 1 pick in to 2-3 lesser round picks, but due to their scouting it becomes a quantity of quality situation
- 1st round picks? What are those?

I was watching one of the NFL talking head type shows during the week, and a former player also brought up location as being a factor as well. It's a lot harder for Jacksonville and Cleveland to add star talent than Los Angeles.

All excellent points. Mostly ignored by the Experts ... who tend to ignore facts ... too much work.

I can't imagine someone like Miller (or OBJ) not wanting to come back, even at a reduced rate for a good chance at another ring.

OTOH, my job didn't have those "ring" perks or multimillion dollar salaries - so, what the 'ell do I know.... :weary:

Whoever the Rams keep are gonna get paid. None of these guys are gonna take anything more than a minor discount. In Odell's case, he was effed by fate, so I agree he might just sign another short term contract with us for another SB run and I'm fine with that for now. But this idea that guys love being here so much that they're gonna take less... Pipe dream. Once there's blood in the FA waters guys are gonna be looking out for the best deals they can get and rightly so.

Also irt other teams adopting what the Rams do... You gotta have a top HC to pull that off IMO. If you don't have a HC who can set the right culture and on top of that an elite staff you're gonna miss too much on those middling picks and in the managing of the egos. And you need an owner who will move money and pay guys out as you go and all that.

What the Rams have been doing won't work for most teams. That won't stop them from trying of course. Which means more teams throwing good money after bad in FA, seeing as how so many front offices are fucking stupid. But basically what the Rams do is a modified Patriots' model. I keep going back to that image in my head of Stan carrying that Patriots Way book. IMO that's the origin of the Rams' current way of doing business.

With all the Skips, Rob Parkers, and all the other Nattering nabobs of Negativisms out there, we'll always be seeing all these ridiculous "Yeah, but what ifs." It's never gonna stop. It's only gonna get more pathetic.

Fuck them. Let them seethe in their envy.

The 49er fans are convinced that we will be 1-16 each year forever and that because they have a rookie QB, they will now win multiple SBs. Fans can have fantasies - seems like most of the Skips and Parker’s are just as “knowledgeable” as the average fan base.

Not ROD though - we are freakin geniuses!

Gotta believe it helps a LOT that Aaron F'ng Donald is openly calling for those two to be brought back. Meaningful to both ownership AND those players.

I forgot the #1 "against the grain" play the Rams made, which has led to mass copying...
Hiring the young coach with no HC experience!
