EARTH CITY, Mo. -- St. Louis Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald earned no shortage of awards for his breakthrough rookie season. After the year, he went to the Pro Bowl and was named Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Which has many wondering just how high his ceiling extends. Over at Grantland, apparently that ceiling is essentially limitless. Robert Mays unveiled his list of the Triangle All-Stars, the players who are worth watching every week because you never know what they're going to do next. Donald was the choice as the lone defensive lineman, including this line:
"This may seem like a stretch, but by season’s end, Aaron Donald has a chance to be the best non-J.J. Watt defender in football," Mays wrote.
The crazy thing is, it really doesn't seem like that much of a stretch at all. Donald didn't start until the team's fifth game a year ago and after he jumped into the starting lineup he had nine sacks and consistently dominated in the run game as well.
Now, Donald will get a full season's worth of snaps and is committed to taking his game to the next level. It's not outlandish to say that Donald will only continue to improve as he gets more opportunities.
