EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Less than a week after Los Angeles Rams punter Johnny Hekker and defensive tackle Aaron Donald earned Associated Press first-team All-Pro honors, another round of awards came their way on Monday.
The Pro Football Writers of America announced their NFL, AFC and NFC All-Pro teams with the Rams landing Donald and Hekker on the all-NFL and all-NFC lists. Donald and Hekker were both named to the Pro Bowl last month, the second nod for each player.
Donald posted 11 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, 49 quarterback pressures and 29 quarterback hits according to the coaching staff's film review. That performance has him squarely in the conversation for the league's Defensive Player of the Year award. While it's unlikely he'll win the award, he could land in the top three. This is Donald's first PFWA All-Pro nod following his first AP honor.
For Hekker, it's the second time in three years he's been named the NFL's best punter and his third straight year getting the NFC version of the award. It was never more deserved than this time around as Hekker posted one of the best seasons by a punter in league history.
Hekker led the NFL in punts (96), gross punting average (47.9), net punting average (43.7) and punts downed inside the opponents’ 20 yard-line (41). Since the NFL began tracking the inside-the-20 statistic, Hekker is the only punter to lead the league in that category, gross and net punting in the same season.
