EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Lost in the hoopla of the NFL's regular-season schedule release on Tuesday night was the huge announcement of the dates and times for the four-game preseason slate.
OK, so it really can't be lost in the hoopla if nobody is really all that interested but just for posterity, here's the Rams' preseason slate:
Friday, Aug. 14, at Oakland, 10 p.m. ET
Sunday, Aug. 23, at Tennessee, 8 p.m. ET
Saturday, Aug. 29, vs. Indianapolis, 8 p.m. ET
Thursday, Sept. 3, vs. Kansas City, 8 p.m. ET
A few quick notes here:
As we reported on Monday, the Rams have been in conversations with the Dallas Cowboys about training together in Oxnard, California, should the schedules for each team's first preseason game line up. The Rams play on Aug. 14 against Oakland and Dallas plays at San Diego on Aug. 13. Given that, it's probably safe to assume that the Rams will make the joint training session with the Cowboys happen. Los Angeles reasons aside, it just makes logistical sense. With such a late start to the game against Oakland, the Rams wouldn't be back in St. Louis until somewhere in the range of 8 a.m. CT on that Saturday. It's the kind of schedule that can throw off a team in training camp and coach Jeff Fisher would probably prefer not to do it.
The Rams have had a habit of having a day game in the mix somewhere along the way. It was a nice reprieve for fans who might otherwise not want to attend a preseason game and sportswriters who'd prefer to be done working before the wee hours of the morning. There's no such break in this year's schedule.
