Snead/McVay have managed to constantly upgrade this roster since 2017 despite losing talented players each year due to the cap ceiling. That’s now a 5 year trajectory and counting. Beyond huge and I don’t see many other teams doing that.

Also, McVay has done a magnificent job of annually replenishing his coaching staff. 7 new coaches this year alone. The importance of that can’t be overstated. I’ve never seen anything like it, tbh.

Well, I guess that Stafford trade is kinda working out, huh? Don’t see any ‘Stafford ain’t elite’ posts anymore. Lol.

Buckle up, y’all. This Ram O has not yet fully hit it’s stride. When it does I think it will compare nicely to the GSOT. There, I said it.

Hard to pick just one player that’s been this season’s most pleasant surprise. Allen, Hav, Stafford (exceeded even my lofty expectations), Big Whit (reports of his decline have been greatly exaggerated), Jefferson, DJ, Jones-Day, Hollins, Young, Reeder, Long. All have exceeded most expectations. And frankly, we’ve seen flashes from ARob lately, Lewis, and Rochell. Michel has done a fine job after being thrown into the fire, as well. If I didn’t know better, I’d think that the Rams have some shrewd talent evaluators AND some ‘real fine’ coaches.

Don’t look now, but I think Rams have a SB caliber OL. Apparently our OL fears were misplaced. Kudos to Carberry, btw. Looking like another brilliant McVay coaching hire so far.

Can’t wait to see Garrett and Harris worked onto the field, will be invaluable prep for next year if nothing else.

Each year we lose quality players due to the cap and yet each year Snead/McVay have capable replacements just waiting to take their place. Quite a refreshing change from the post-GSOT years, huh?

Rams D virtually shut down Bucs rushing game. Only allowed 35 yards, I believe, and 14 of those were from Brady scrambles. Heck, Bucs stopped trying, especially when Rams went on their consecutive scoring drive binge.

Speaking of which, 6 consecutive scoring drives? Am I dreaming? Somebody pinch me!

I’m really warming up to Kenny Young. The more I see and hear, the more I like. How about you?

Long has been a pleasant surprise but this Rochell kid really intrigues me. I’m almost certain that he’s gonna be just fine as DW’s replacement next year. Should make a helluva duo with Ramsey.

Gay has proven to be an upgrade over Zuerlein. Brilliant decision there.

Maybe, just maybe, our ST coverage teams are coming around. Sure hope so, but DeCamillus hasn’t won me over just yet. If our ST can regain top 5 status then I think this Ram team will be complete.

Not to bash Goff in any way, but the difference Stafford brings to this O is dramatic. The other 3 HC’s in our division now know that they will truly have their hands full against the new best QB in the NFC West. McVay is visibly giddy on the sidelines these days. Like a 6 year old on Christmas morning!

I continue to dislike this ‘soft zone’ D that Morris prefers. Frankly, I don’t think it plays to the strengths of DW, Long, or Rapp in particular. I would also like to see more 3-and-outs to allow Stafford more possessions. Just imagine what THAT could accomplish. But I will concede that the scoring D has been quite good, probably in the top 5-6 of teams that have played 3 games. So there is that.

I’m gonna wrap it up with this. The ‘21 Rams are not gonna go undefeated because it’s almost impossible with a 17 game season in this era of cap forced parity. But I will say this. This team has not yet peaked and probably won’t until at least November. But they are clearly among the handful that are legit SB contenders.

Young's easy to root for so yeah I agree. I have wanted to choke him at times but when he's making splash plays out there that covers for some of his mistakes. Also the guy is getting better.

His press conference was excellent. I came away from it understanding him better, that he's a guy who is going to work his ass off to be great. And that is something I can always root for whether or not I think the player can get there. His game is similar to Littleton's game to my eye (I call him a chase backer), but the difference is that this guy seems humble and hungry to take his game to a different level. Just my opinion here but I felt like Littleton was a different dude in that way, struck me as a guy who felt he had arrived moreso than a hungry type with a ton to prove. And 10 times out of 10 I'll take the latter player. :thumbsup1:

Good write up.
I think it is really important to point out, that the owner allowed mcsneed to turn a record amount of cash into dead cap space. I don't think any other owner would have allowed it. Huge fucking gamble. We have a great owner who hires good people and trusts them to do there job. Very different from the shopping queen.

Great take as always 43. Gotta remember none of these guys played in pre-season so they are still jelling. Looking down the road and into next season with Akers coming back, Harris, Garrett and Skowronick getting into the mix, Rams look to be even better for a push to the SB next year.

Good stuff.

I keep reading faint praise for the defense and look back to the first few weeks of last year.
Week 3, that D got smoked by the Bills for most of the game and in crunch time (well.. there was that shitty call against Dwill..).
This D is just fine for where they are right now. 21 rushing yards outside of Brady? Gimme a break!!! That's supposed to be a good Dline!!
The Rams took Fournette completely out of the game and he was a huge factor in the playoffs!!

One thing that is really intriguing... the Bucs didn't really stop the Rams once, imo. Different game and they go for it on 4th if they needed to. And Stafford was just a little too excited at the start and flat out missed. Defense didn't alter a damn thing.

Holy moly.

Agreed. Rams have it going on from the top down. Stan's first two hires were pretty damn good. First he went and got the best coach on the market to kick off his ownership, and a vet coach was not a bad way to go. Then he hired McVay and was smart enough to keep Snead around for continuity and let him pair with the young coach.

Oh and he also happened to solve a 20 year dilemma for the NFL with the LA stadium issue.

For any of us who are old enough to remember the full slate of shit that Georgia served us all I can say is Stan's off to a great start. He's gonna end up in the Hall himself if his first years are any indicator of what is to come.

The NFL is still dealing with the fallout of having an owner who was just out of her weight class in the LA market. You needed an absolute baller owner to fix that problem.
And, I agree with your take on the hires... and I also appreciate that he didn't knee-jerk and fire Snead when he got rid of Fisher. Restraint and patience are underrated qualities.

I cannot overstate how happy I am about this development, especially at C. It was a problem area for two years running and now the problem seems to have been solved - ironically with a guy who was part of the problem initially (at least to the degree you can consider the '19 version of Brian Allen to be the same as the '21 version). It's not just that the problem has been solved either, after yesterday's performance against another good DL, it's starting to look like an area of strength.

Morris is living up to his statement that he doesn't give a rat's ass about stats. He's all about results. I hate their soft zone but Morris has shown he can tighten things up in the crunch. So yeah as I've stated before, as long as the D continues to play well enough for the Rams to continue to win then Morris will continue to get the nod from me.

I think some adjustments will be made on Defense as the season goes on. Morris will see where his players excel and where they falter. I know McVay is too involved not to at least put a whisper into Morris' ear if he feels he needs to.

DW and Rap both play sound in man coverage, Especially DWilliams.

Did anyone notice that Reeder was only in for 16 plays.

He is a decent run stopper but can't cover a RB to save his ass.

Since TB was doing only passes for the most part, the Rams went with cover linebackers instead of a run stopping LB.

I’m hoping we peak during games #18-20/21 this season.

Nothing but respect for how Kroenke has rebuilt and run the franchise. Imo it's extraordinary. And I grew up in St. Louis.

Reeder is not a run stopper. In fact, he comes in to sub for A'Shawn Robinson, who is a run-stopper. Reeder is in for obvious/likely passing downs.

Reeder is an ILB, he does not sub in for DL Robinson.

I'm pretty sure Reeder was in coverage on the Bernard TD.

His snaps have been limited this season, he played more last week but that's most likely because of Young getting ejected.

The drafting of Cooper Kupp is such an underrated move.
How many WRs got drafted ahead of him? His production in THREE games alone is better than some early draft picks can hope for in one season. No cap.

Anyone remember the play, 2nd quarter… Bucs scored a rushing TD and Aikman was saying “a Rams player lost track of the ball”?

I rewound and watched that play a few times. It was Kenny Young. If he did not lose sight of the ball he would have been in position for the stop.

He had a good game. That play he missed. I just remembered Aikman said that.
