I am not going to trash talk because I have no clue which Dodger team will show up game to game

The one that shuts out opponents like in the playoffs or the one that gives up 8 or more runs like in the playoffs.

This series - Yankees could sweep, Dodgers could sweep - could go 7 games either way.

Nothing will surprise me in this series. I am just astounded that Dodgers made it to the World Series with the starting pitching that they have (or lack of it).

I hate the fact that both of y'all are in there; I wanted Cleveland to win it all this year, since the Cardinals couldn't.

Boo - I root for the Cardinals when they are in the World Series.

Can't have you guys gaining on the WS trophies...and sadly, we're not catching the Yankees in my lifetime.

Who is?
I'm not a 'cocky' Yankee fan, so don't take this the wrong way.

World Series Appearances (W-L-PCT)

NY Yankees 41* (27-13 .675)

Brooklyn/LA Dodgers 22* (7-14 .333; LA 6-6; Brooklyn 1-8)
New York/San Francisco Giants 20 (8-12 .400; SF 3-3, NY 5-9)
St. Louis Cardinals 19 (11-8 .579)

Oakland/KC/Philadelphia A's 13 (9-4 .692; Oakland 5-2; Philly 4-2))
Boston Red Sox 13 (8-5 .615)
Detroit Tigers 11 (4-7 .364)
Chicago Cubs 11 (3-8 .273)
Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta 10 (5-5 .500; Boston 1-1; Milwaukee 1-1; Atlanta 3-3))

Cincinnati Reds 9 (5-4 .556)
Philadelphia Phillies 8 (2-6 .250)
Pittsburgh Pirates 7 (5-2 .714)
St.Louis Browns/Baltimore Orioles 7 (3-4 .429; Baltimore 3-3; St. Louis 0-1)
Cleveland Indians/Guardians 6 (2-4 .333)
Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins 6 (3-3 .500; Washington 1-2; Minnesota 2-1)
Chicago White Sox 5 (3-2 .600)
NY Mets 5 (2-3 .400)
Houston Astros 5 (2-3 .400; AL 2-2; NL 0-1)

Kansas City Royals 4 (2-2 .500)
Washington Senators/Texas Rangers 3 (1-2 .333; Texas 1-2)
Toronto Blue Jays 2 (2-0 1.000)
Florida/Miami Marlins 2 (2-0 1.000)
Arizona Diamondbacks 2 (1-1 .500)
Tampa Rays 2 (0-2 .000)
San Diego Padres 2 (0-2 .000)

Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals 1 (1-0 1.000; Washington 1-0)
Los Angeles Angels 1 (1-0 1.000)
Milwaukee Brewers 1 (0-1 .000)
Colorado Rockies 1 (0-1 .000)
Seattle Mariners 0

The most common World Series matchup is Yankees/Dodgers. And now we have another one.

FWIW, your Cardinals have played the Yankees 5 times (3-2), Boston 4 times (2-2), Detroit three times (2-1) and the A's twice. Also the Rangers, Twins, Brewers, Royals and St. Louis Browns back in 1944. I wonder how many people outside of St. Louis watched that series during WW2?

And now, I'll act like a cocky Yankee fan. This series is a matchup of the team who has won the most World Series vs the team who has lost the most :laugh2:. Of course a Dodger win will create a tie for most World Series losses, so there's that.

I wasn't talking about the Dodgers. I was talking about the actual NL leader in WSs: the one and only St. Louis Cardinals.

Absolutely!!! The only other team with double digit Championships.

The 1964 World Series was the first one I watched....or at least, the first one I remembered. The Yankees were up 2 games to 1 and in game 4, Ken Boyer hit a grand slam to give St. Louis the 4-3 win over Al Downing, who was from my hometown. I remember thinking, "how can his brother let him play for the Cardinals?" LOL. FWIW, I believe Bob Gibson was the best big game pitcher in history and when I first saw Luis Severino, I thought, 'he reminds me of Gibson' (how wrong I was). But Gibson's consecutive run of World Series complete games started in 1964, game 7. Seven straight. And more remarkably, those were the days when they went on 3 days rest. :wow2:Gibson finished 53% of the regular season games he started, 89% of his postseason starts!!

Gibby was just built different. How I wish we had someone like him on the mound; if we did, maybe we wouldn't be in the mess we're in, having to rebuild (even though it's been a long time coming, and I hope we can stick with it).

And Ken Boyer remains the only retired number of the Cardinals to never reach the Hall (even though he's more than deserving).

What a year he had in 64. MVP. .295, 24 HR, 119 Rbi. He had an even better season in 61 but he suffered the same fate Soto and Witt will this year.
