2024 NFL free agency: Ranking available salary cap space for all 32 teams

The NFL offseason is officially underway, as the combine takes place this week, while free agency begins next week. Recently, the NFL announced that the official salary cap figure for 2024 would be $255.4 million -- which is up from $224.8 million. The $30.6 million increase is the largest in free agency history.

The "football business" is doing quite well, which is good news for all 32 NFL teams, as it gives them more financial flexibility for roster building. Some teams will use this boost to be even more aggressive in free agency, while others will sit back and reconsider cost-cutting measures.

Now that we are approaching free agency, this is a good time to revisit the salary cap situations for every team. Let's take a look.

Salary cap figures via Over The Cap on Feb. 26

TEAMCAP SPACE
Commodes$79,614,671
Titans$78,524,381
Bears$78,335,157
Patriots$78,070,006
Colts$72,075,573
Texans$67,321,290
Lions$57,614,821
Cardinals$51,104,463
Bengals$50,670,373
Buccaneers$43,682,067
Raiders$42,936,109
Rams$39,905,695
Vikings$35,807,132
Panthers$34,572,274
Falcons$33,004,013
Giants$30,601,691
Eagles$27,469,811
Jaguars$24,421,167
Chiefs$17,139,240
Ravens$16,631,328
Jets$12,756,122
Seahawks$12,569,647
Steelers$8,906,955
Packers$2,340,288
49ers-$5,046,251
Browns-$7,758,897
Cowboys-$9,863,127
Broncos-$16,811,078
Chargers-$25,607,797
Dolphins-$29,069,894
Saints-$39,879,497
Bills-$43,815,909

The Commodes, who also hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, lead the way with over $79 million in available funds. It's a good thing, because they have plenty of holes to fill on both sides of the ball. The Titans will be an interesting team to watch as well. They have the second-most available money as it stands, and are prepared to undergo a change in identity with Brian Callahan as the new head coach. The Bears are again sitting pretty this offseason with over $78 million in cap space. They also hold the No. 1 overall pick in the draft for the second straight year.

While the $30.6 million increase was good news, it doesn't mean everyone is out of the woods just yet. There are currently eight teams still above the cap number, which means they will be limited in what they can accomplish in free agency. The teams worst off are the Saints (-$39,879,497), and the Bills (-$43,815,909). Mickey Loomis and Brandon Beane will have to make some tough decisions to clear space.

Spotrac has Rams at $48m cap space. The breakdown is more comprehensive on Spotrac so I cannot see everything that goes into calculating the net on OTC. Only differences I saw were Rivers and Shelton ($5m vs $3m) on OTC. Anyone else account for the difference?

I know someone websites use a term like "real cap" (I know that's not correct but I can't remember right now lol) which is a different more complicated number.

Edit: effective cap space!

So with the significant cap increase I’m warming up to overpaying for Dotson but only by a bit. If the Rams were willing to go to say $14m/year and Dotson was looking for more like $16m. And now the Rams are willing to match the $16m due to the additional funds. Then I fully expect Dotson to accept the $16m and not grab $18m/ year from another more desperate team. I want a better OL in 2024 but I believe that starts with keeping Dotson, Avilla and Hav in place. Then improve at OC via the draft (keeping Ajax at LT) or improve at LT via the draft (keeping Shelton at OC). Feed the beast!!

Yeah, OTC had them at $48M pre Robinson signing, and they list him as $4M cap hit, yet they knocked it down to $43M and then $39.9M. Not sure why.

So only 3 playoff teams, 2 in the NFC (Detroit & Tampa) have more cap space than the Rams?

The Bills are #32 43.8 over the cap? I don't hear much about that though. How you liking that Von Miller signing now?

This is honestly a very good interior OL free agent class. If Dotson plays hardball for 16m, we could pivot to a guy like Robert Hunt who is projected around 11.8. IMO, Hunt is on the same level as Dotson. I'd prefer Dotson sure, but, Hunt is not too far off and far cheaper. Also, if Shelton plays hardball, one of the best centers in the NFL is a free agent, Connor Williams, is projected at $13.5m. Top 5 center for that? Wouldn't be a bad move.

How are they cheapskates? They only had 4.9 mill in rollover from '23, some 3 mill less than our Rams. They spend the money, just dont spend it wisely!!!

The value move may be what some have suggested.. drafting a tackle high. Maybe it's a guy who can be successful inside and he starts his career there while you get one more year to see what you have in Alaric. Maybe it's a guy who beats Alaric out and moves AJ inside instead.

Hmmmm….
Dorance Armstrong?
Van Ginkel?
Quick Observation.

Dorance Armstrong is a cool name. Andrew Van Ginkel is also a very good name.

Dorance Van Ginkel!?! That would be a terrible name. Just awful.

I did NOT claim it was an interesting, meaningful or relevant observation.

It’s amazing to me how certain franchises keep their fan base engaged by almost perennially….
-Owning a top 5 pick
-Having a ton of cap room
-Signing high profile FA’s
-Churning thru QB’s

It feels like a strategy to never win shit, yet get talked about constantly on ESPN as a team with loads of potential. Fans eat it up too.
