Think he's referring to D Day and when he's finally a free agent.

Looks like we’re losing Sammy because we could talk about it if we re-signed him.

That’s sad.

Edit: just wanted to reiterate that Sammy’s almost assuredly gone. The painful reality of seductive reasoning...

They could resign him still, but I doubt it. I'm guessing the impasse is such that both sides want to see what other teams will formally offer. If it doesn't blow the Rams' offer out of the park, then it'll get revisited. Otherwise he probably signs minutes after free agency starts. I expect the latter, not the former. Given the Rams' needs on defense, and how they like to spread the ball around, I'm expecting Watkins to be worth more to another team, especially one that has a lot more cap space and a less balanced offense.

RECENT NEWS
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Rams are "working actively" to re-sign free agent Sammy Watkins.
Watkins is reportedly "open to staying." La Canfora mentions Watkins possibly settling for a "bridge" contract, likely on a one- or two-year deal to continue to rebuild other teams' confidence in his ability to stay healthy and effective. Watkins' "market" to this point has been pretty quiet. Most teams likely view him as a fallback plan to fellow free agent Allen Robinson. Mar 11 - 5:11 PM

This makes sense. I've always felt that if we do re-sign Watkins, it'll be a relatively short-term deal because Watkins will want to hit FA again during his prime.

So glad to hear this. Total win win for the Rams and Watkins sign him to a short affordable deal. If he works out he can sign that long-term deal with us and by then we should have some of our cap issues worked out

They don't have that much money to spend. They only have one starting LB returning - they need to do something about that. They likely want a new NT. Most of their OL will be free agents soon - they need to start signing some of them to long term contracts, which will likely be raises. Their starting center is a free agent - he needs to be signed. Donald needs to be signed to a long term contract - and since Gurley and Goff are coming up, they likely want to front load his contract, to prevent major cap issues going forward. They need some money set aside for free agents to replace injured players during the season. They need some depth signings, most likely. Their nickel CB is a free agent, for that matter.

Unless Watkins is reasonably priced, he is likely gone, and they may just go with the kids they have - maybe one inexpensive vet at WR unless there is a can't miss deal.

So I just watched the video of Talib talking about his excitement of playing with the Rams. And he said a few times during the interview how great a city Los Angeles is, how great the weather is, hollywood, etc.

Remember 3 years ago when we are all debating if moving to Los Angeles would noticeably help to attract free agents?
The verdict is in.

It does!!!
