A thread idea I stole from another board.

If you played sports, what was the one game you had (or play you made) that made you say to yourself, "Oh man, I'm the shizznit." Could be any sports at any level from T-ball or Pop Warner to College.

I had a few games where I made an interception and some big hits in football, but mine was in baseball at the Little League level. It was my first year, and in the league I was 'drafted' into (after tryouts), you had 2nd year players and the rookies. I was a rookie (12 years old full of 13/14 year olds). Anyway. I wasn't as good as the older kids, so I didn't get a lot of PT. As it happened, my mom was in a car accident during the week and had to be hospitalized. I was freaked the hell out because ... you know, that's my mom. She wasn't seriously hurt, but she had to stay in for a few days, and I didn't want to play that weekend because I wanted to stay with her. She made me go though, and said .. "You go out and you play great for me."

Presssssssssssssurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre.

I wasn't supposed to start, but I begged the coach to let me play anyway. He had worked with my mom in the past (she was a contractor, he was an electrician) so he knew what the deal was and he let me start against his better judgement. So what did I do? First at bat - I got jammed up on a fast ball and pushed a line drive over 3rd base with 2 on, and cleared the bases. Second at bat - turned late on a ball I didn't want to swing at, and sliced it over first base for another triple, this time with 3 on. Third AB was a single with nobody on, but I stole second on a passed ball and then third when the catcher overthrew the shortstop.

3 for 3, 5 RBI's, 2 SB (technically), game ball (signed by the team for my mom), and inserted into the starting lineup.

Best game of my life.

Anyone else?

I wasn't much of an athlete. I was a fat kid most of my life...but the two things that stand out are the time when I was around 12 I bowled in the 190's (I can't remember the exact score)...I remember it because the adults around made such a big deal about it but I was mad I was close to 200 and didn't get it...in retrospect I don't think I've ever come close to that again haha.

And there are a couple plays in highschool football that stand out. My Sophmore year I was 2nd team most of the year but after we struggled against a weak opponent the coach switched some things up and gave me the start. We were winning 7-0 going into the half when the other team was kicking a field goal with 3 seconds on the clock. I got through the line and blocked the kick with my face mask. Hey, the kick could have been a line drive for all I know but I got a lot of accolades after the game for it.

One other moment was when I was a junior playing varsity. Again, second team and we were getting our asses kicked (which happened a lot to the varsity until my class became seniors and we won our conference and district)...anyway, I went in in the third quarter and the first play I was in I knocked the center on his ass and tackled the RB for a 3 yard loss. The runningback had gashed our team that day for about 200 yards and I think I made the only tackle for a loss. Sadly, I don't think I made anymore plays that day after than and sure I was knocked around hahaha.

Though I was better in football my finest moment comes down to two things. Scored 47 points, including the game winning three my senior year in HS. It was against a team we had not beaten in eight years. The second is my first and only homerun in HS baseball! I was really bad at baseball but enjoyed playing it.

When I popped the shit out of our rival schools QB on a play action play, this specific time. The way his face changed when he seen I didn't take the bait and the way he was on the ground after the play for a little bit holding his chest. priceless.

I was an avid bowler 15yrs ago. I always wanted to average >200.

I read books. Bought good gear. In my 3rd season I averaged 203, then retired from league play. Not sure why. Just felt like I made my goal.

Best individual game: I took a perfect game into the 9th frame.

Ridding the night section of the Baja 1000 when I was 18 and a few Supercrosses was kinda cool...

But what I savor most was getting 9 personal fouls as a Quaterback my senior year. I so earned those.

In 1978, while stationed in Korea, I went TDY to Okinawa. While there I got the chance to play table tennis against Mitsuru Kohno who was the reigning world champion. I was the PACAF (Pacific Air Forces) champion. I scored 1 point against him in the first of three games I played against him. It was the best game I've ever played.

Bowled a 300. Almost had more. Had games of 299, 298, 297 and many 279's etc. Bowled for about 15 years, gave it up when i was 18-19. Highest average at end of a season was around 215-217, don't remember exactly. Think when i gave it up i had around 12 bowling balls and had lived/breathed bowling non stop for years. Been to youth tournaments in Las Vegas and all across Florida. Even had scholarship offers to FSU, Nebraska, Utah. Turned them down and later that year stopped bowling league play and bowled only here and there with friends or my grandma. Havent bowled in years now.

Dannnnnnng. My personal best is 270, and never came close to that again. Why didn't you hit the pro circuit? Good money in that.

I had dreamed of going Pro for years. From June-Oct my senior year in high school i had 7 surgeries on my leg, some turned out bad and had some mental issues from them. Still went back to bowling after them and did fine, but my heart and head weren't into it anymore.

Aw damn. Sorry to hear that. Well, if you're ever in the neighborhood, let's get a lane and I'll show you the true meaning of humility.
