Great thread idea!!

Ugh....1982 Crossfire Z28 Mullet Mobile. Was a pig by todays standards, but I loved the functional louver gates.....my wifes current 4 door would put bus lengths on it today, haha.

I am waiting until my midlife crisis to buy my first sports car. My Old man had a 65 Mercury Cougar when I was a kid...would love to get my hands on one now

75 Maverick. It took me a while to get that tragedy of a car road worthy, had to replace the ball joints and brakes and the radiator. But it was my first car and I loved it.

Same pea green color, except with a lot more dents. Being my first auto, I washed and waxed those dents religiously, for which I took criticism from my friends.

I dogged that 250 straight six like no-ones business and was a terror. Now I get the safer thrill from my bikes :)

72 Chevy Vega.
My dad picked it up at an auction for $50. It had a bad water pump. Put in another $50.
I had a job after school at a cabinet shop in 1985. I gave my dad his $100 back and the car was mine. I didn't have my license yet ( I was 15), but he let me drive it back and forth to work. Once I got my drivers permit, he let me drive anywhere.
I was free.

The car wasn't that clean for being 15 years old, but it was mine.
I drove it all summer until I saved up enough money for my second car.

This wasn't the car. It was similar, but not as nice as this one. I didn't care.

Love it. What engine?
326 V8 with the posi-trac tranny (It's what kept tires on her. ;)) And it's a one-owner. My older sister got it for her 16th birthday. Then on my 16th, it was passed down to me. When my younger sister turned 16, I gave it to her. It's now in storage in Virginia waiting on me to turn her plush again.

I love it. This is one of the cars I'm considering selling my 2010 Camaro to buy:

A few others I'm looking at are:

in 1988 I bought an 84 Trans Am. Red with black interior and T tops. Had a five speed. I can't imagine having a Sportscar with an automatic.
The car was a blast

I was 19 at the time. The insurance companies didn't want to insure me.
My car payment was $250 a month.
My insurance was $252 a month. About half of some of the quotes I got.

I can't drive stick. Wish I could because there's some cars that I found that I really like that are stick. But at this point in my life, I just don't want to take the time to learn.

That's a lot for insurance...whoa.

Lmao.
You may want to reconsider. Your missing out on some fun.

Yeah, the insurance kicked my ass. I kept the car for a year then bought a truck. It was what I was going to buy to begin with, until I saw that lowered, cherry Trans am.

If you got a love for classic american muscle, you are missing a large chunk without a stick

Probably but it seems like it takes so much effort and probably not a good idea to learn in a classic car haha.

Ain't that the truth. Nothing like manually shifting a car with lots of torque.
Quickest car I ever drove was my brother's 1983 SAAB 900 Turbo (5sp manual). Man, when that turbo kicked in the thing just took off - it didn't matter how fast you were already driving.

When I think back to my high school daze , and all those classic cars that used to sit out in the high school parking lot , I went to high school in the early 80's , and our parking lot was just full of late 60's , early to mid 70's Camaro's and Firebird's , Mustang's , Charger's , Cuda's , Nova's

But at the time , we never thought of them as classics or collectibles , they were just cheap used cars high school kids could pick up for 800 bucks

The three cars that stick out the most in my memory were we had a bunch of 68/69 Cameros and Firebirds , but what sticks out the most was that they were all that dull light blue color , the second , was The Ford Mustang Mach 1 , now I've never been a Ford guy , but I always like the Mach 1 , in Yellow , and third , Chevy Nova's , these things were all over the place when I was in school , these things were like a dime a dozen , all jacked way up in the rear with big ol'e wide tires on the back

Although I was in high school in the early 80's , if anyone has ever seen the movie Dazed and Confused , and the cars in that movie , you'll know exactly what I'm talking about , my high school was just like that

C'mon Jrry. A real muscle car with a stick is something every testosterone junkie needs to get hold of. Grabbing gears is what it is all about because you feel like you are doing just that - grabbing gears. The feel of that rear end trying to shove the seat out from under your ass and then downshifting into and out of a turn while you jump on it.... it's about the only thing I miss in driving a muscle car. It doesn't take long to learn and when you do, you will be like a kid in a candy store. Just find a vacant parking lot and you'll learn in minutes being that you probably have all the other motions down.

Muscle cars are no where near as smooth as most cars today. They make you want a smoke afterwards.

Well, I have something to ponder now.

Yea , I have that friend that had that Dodge Dart Swinger and you could get that this sideways in all 4 gears , anything that wasn't secured down would always end up on the floor , cassette tapes , etc , that car had a bench seat , and no one ever wore their seat belts back then , you'd be sliding all over the place.............lol
