AD takes over games and I pray this year he has shown that he is irreplaceable. You can't let someone slip away when they are considered the best at what they do and quite possibly the overall best defensive player. The Rams can't let him wear any other jersey for his entire career. Players like him are worth breaking the bank. Don't make the biggest mistake in franchise history and let him slip away. PAY THAT MAN!

He is a first ballot hall of famer if he continues to play at this level for a couple of more years. Think about that.

Don’t worry friend. He’ll get paid by the Rams when the time comes.

(i.e not when he’s got 2 years left on the existing deal)

Meh it's going to happen... sounds like before the season ends as well. Unlike most people I don't think this will distract him.

I believe the framework of a deal has been mostly done since he reported - they just need to wait until cap room clears.

If AD decides or demands to break the bank, how will we be able to sign our other UFAs and stay within the salary cap? Still need to decide on Joyner, Tru, Nickell, Watkins, Sullivan, etc. Who stays and who goes?

It may be that the Rams need to use next year's cap and possible roster cuts to give Donald the money he deserves. But keep in mind the Rams will likely spend up to their salary cap anyway. The question is how much goes to AD versus other players, and is there enough to go around to keep a strong roster. Hopefully there should be.

Front load it now so that Gurley and Goff can be extended in a couple of years. But agreed that it is probably mostly done but there was no way the Rams were going to do it before this year due to A) they had no cap space and B) they wanted one more year of rookie contract money for him.

Just a thought but I’m thinking that 3 yr opt out isn’t a problem anymore he sees the direction of the team and wants to be a part of it. Maybe that’s the reason why talks have resumed

I'm just amazed that Aaron Donald is still walking around smiling, when he's not totally disrupting the other team's offense, that is. The fact that he is making a mere 1.8 million (or whatever) has to be discouraging, when you consider that he is AT LEAST AS GOOD as the very best players who were picked ahead of him in that draft. I mean, he probably ate Greg Robinson's lunch everyday in practice! The Rams have had a bargain for the last 4 years.

Demoff is gold in handling the CAP. I have my doubts on Tru returning, he may have burned some bridges with his past negotiating style. The one great sign that I see for getting everyone we want back under the CAP in 2018 is that while the Rams front load long term contracts, ... the 1'st year of said contract is almost always very team friendly, and the 2'nd & 3'rd years is where we see the big CAP hits. Add in that Donald's 5'th year option salary is already calculated into next seasons CAP, so his raise next year, although quite significant, would be half paid for already. Consider also a small savings in parting with Austin and potentially extending Saffold. The real problem may be post 2018 and determined more by TV contracts with the NFL and whether they have stemmed the tide from sponsors & fans losing interest in the game & how it affects total revenue and how that money trickles down to an annual rise in team CAP. Should the Rams re-sign all of our desired players, good chance that outside free agents will be fewer, especially those upper tier guys, but with as young as our team is, this may not be all that problematic with another couple solid drafts brought to you by our exceptional coaching staff & Snead. Draft well and the Rams will be fine for years. jmo.

I had not heard this. That is good news if true, even better if he finally gets his extension.

Yep, not good to let hall-o-famers leave and Donald is pace to be a first ballot one.
