Sorry, but 1-yd TD receptions aren’t what I’m counting on from Sammy. We can save money and just give the ball to Gurley when we get down there.
But when they need a clutch grab, what WR has more TD??

Even you take away his 2 1 yard TD, who on the team has 5 or more TD rec?

SW with 7 TD receptions, TG has 10 total
Sammy's long is 67, and this was about 55 or better in the air, and that was early in the season. He did quit on a route early, McVay had a come to Jesus meeting with him, been all good since

For the amount of draft picks given up for this guy since he came into the league and the money he will be looking for I’m looking for elite WR numbers-not stats you see from a decent tight end. This guy has elite talent-when does he take over a game like a Jones, Hopkins, Brown, Green, etc? thought he’d step up with Woods going down but still only see him catching 1 to 5 yd slants in the end zone.

A full year in the Off-Season might do wonders for Sammy as well. I hope he stays a Ram!

He's being doubled which has freed up Kupp, you might have noticed his production go up right?

Kupp, Woods, and Watkins is an amazing WR trio we need to keep them together as long as possible imo

The team is averaging 30 points a game and people still aren't happy with it?

Go watch some games from the past oh....10+ years or so?

He's not worth elite WR money but he is worth having absolutely. He's a good WR and would like to see this WR group with an offseason together. I'm hoping they can come up with a decent deal that works for everyone to keep him around. Maybe give him the money that's going to Tavon currently.

Sammy didn't have much time, OTA's and TC with the Rams O. Give McVay and Sammy a full off season to get integrated into the offense. I can't wait to see what McVay brainstorms with Watkins. He didn't have much time to come up with plays geared around Watkins.

Since Sammy's stats are not eye-popping he may be easier to resign at a more reasonable rate. I hope the Rams can find a way to keep him without breaking the bank. And I agree with Dieter that it is time to move on from #11.

#11 has to go.....
Is this tongue-in-cheek? Because, if not, then your comment about how Watkins helps the other receivers is the same as how Austin helps on the jet sweeps.

This concept is so vague to me that I really struggle with it.

So, the real value of players like Austin and Watkins is as a decoy or occupying defenders. I guess I'd be OK with it if they came cheap. Austin does not and I'll take a guess Watkins will be asking for some serious jack after this year.

I'll see what he does the remainder of the year... but, if it's more of the same and he's asking for a big pay day? I'm out.

I really think he should have gotten the hang of things by now.

Sammy and the offense just needs more time together, cause sure we can look at the numbers and feel he hasn't been living up to "expectations" but when you watch the game tape and his production game time on the field you can see the potential is there for him to be something special for the rams. The man can make plays and is lucky to be in a position where he doesn't have to be the focal point to make the big plays especially with Woods making big production and Kupp n Reynolds making strides as a rookies.

Yes, they have tremendous value as decoys.

And yes, Tavon Austin should take a paycut.

Even as a fan, I wondered if anyone truly knows how to use a 'gadget' player?

I mean NO ONE really utilized Percy Harvin well and he had truly transcendent moments.

As has Austin. That 300 yard game is something that just terrifies DCs because even getting those 300 yards, it seemed almost effortless...like if given the opportunity and circumstances, Austin could have had nearly double that and it wouldn't have seemed much different.

It SEEMS like these weapons are unstoppable and give the opponents nightmares.

Problem is that they're more like a bazooka at a girl scout meeting: Sure the thing can do tremendous damage, but unless someone knows how to use it, it's really just a conversation piece. And simply noting the ONE time a girl almost accidentally used it shoot a bad guy doesn't mean that any of them has a handle on how to deploy it properly.

I like Tavon and he's a hard worker. And I like that he does have the capacity if anyone sleeps on him to just bury a team in no time flat. We've seen it.

If he takes a pay cut, I'll watch the Rams win multiple Super Bowls with defenses biting on that jet sweep or even better, sleeping on it and watching him take it to the house in the blink of an eye.

But...with all of the people we have to pay, we just can't afford a nearly $10M decoy.

If Watkins wants serious #1 money, then yea, he can get it elsewhere...and he'll have some amazing games getting tons of targets. He'll also disappear like another superstar...Julio Jones.

Greg Cosell of NFL films studied the Rams and said Watkins is open a lot. He repeated a couple times in a pod cast. Most of you heard it in another thread. Sorry no link. He said Sammy is the 3rd or 4rth option during the season. Rams OC Matt LaFleur said you can feel Sammy's power and they have to get him the ball early. I don't know why the Rams don't get him the ball. At this point his numbers are solid if he is the 3rd or 4th option and a decoy. The old reasonable deal comes to mind. I'm not sure what that is. Something like Woods deal 7.5-8.5M is a guess.
