I know this is super random, but I never understood this fully. Isaac Bruce played for the Rams for like, 15 years and built up a hatred for the red and fools gold. What was he thinking when he signed with them? The amazing part is he had plenty left in the tank. In his first year with San Francisco he had 61 receptions for 835 yards and seven touchdowns. That's better production than any of our receivers have done since Torry Holt. Pretty amazing that a 35-year-old man can do that. I remember being so devastated when he joined that god awful team. So then what happened? Anyone know why he did it?

The rams wanted him to take a pay cut. Simple as that.

kinda insulting since they were still playing at a high level - believe it was over a bonus he had earned maybe?

He was cut because we had signed all-world talent Drew Bennett and couldn't afford Bruce anymore...the he signed with the 49ers because Martz was the OC there and I believe the only team that offered him a contract.

It was over a measly 1 million dollars. At that time the idiot Ram leadership tried to cut and resign him to save a few bucks. This became an annual affair and instead of capitulating again he told them to shove it. This move demonstrated utter lack of respect and really infuriated me. I will say that during that time when we played SF I rooted for HIM.

Like all separations is was financial on both sides. Bruce was 35 the Rams did not want to pay him what he wanted. SF wanted him and they signed him. Not much different than Favre going from GB to Minnesota. The player is going to go where he is going to get paid and is wanted.

Your answer is right there...the Rams thought he was at the end...and with nothing left ....they were wrong and he knew it :(

Bruce got screwed, hard
He re-did his deal to save the Rams money and then they cut him.
Martz was in San Fran and welcomed him with open arms

Farve was much different ....it was less the money than the "I am retiring"...."no, I am playing" that he did yearly, it made it hell on the organization for both drafting and salary cap planning.

I'm pretty sure he signed with the Whiners for the same money the rams wanted him to take.

But he felt disrespected by the Rams.

Definitely a sickening situation, Ike is and was one of my all time favorite Rams. Shows the level of idiots that were running the franchise into the ground and why no one with any talent wanted to play for them

I presume it was just a matter of once the Rams fucked up with him, he went to whoever paid him the most. Just like most of us would.

At the end of the day, it's a business.

LOL @ Drew Bennett. My first question I'm seriously going to ask Bruce if I ever get a chance to.

My memory of this is way worse that fuzzy but I seem to remember the Rams low balling him.
