Rams on the short week!
If you thought we were playing the lambs, you thought wrong. They have been playing at an extremely high level the past 4 weeks including 2 complete back to back shut outs and beating teams like denver and holding them to only 7 points. This is going to be far from a gimme game and to be quite honest, they are playing the 2nd best in the NFC west right now (we definitely are not #1).

Our defense is going to have to be sharp. That is 2 weeks in a row where we have let a running back score a gigantic run on us, and is going to be unacceptable next thursday when every point our offense can manage to score is going to be gold. We played great I thought in the second half, but in this game...it might be over by the second half if our defense does not show up for all 4 quarters.

I hope bruce arians looks in the mirror and quickly starts to look at the white board with his offensive coaches because we will need smarter and more effective play calling than what we have been getting. Sure we show cased an unexpected run game against KC that was a breath of fresh air, but the rams have completely blanketed opposing offenses and made run games non-existent. Extremely concerned about this unit heading into St. Louis on a short week.

Special teams- Remember how last season Arians pointed the finger at one missed field goal in St. Louis on the first game of the season as one of the reasons we didnt make the playoffs. Well we are 10-3 now, and Catanzaro hopefully will not let history repeat itself.

If we didnt have to play the seahawks again, I would say this will be our toughest game remaining. I hope the cards see it that way too. This win will be crucial.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, STL is playing at a lights out high level Defense now. So is ARZ the past several weeks. A few missed plays by ARZ do not label the team as inept.

On offense, the STL story is entirely different. STL's Shaun Hill racked up QBRs of 133.3 vs Washington, 116.3 versus Oakland, and just 54.3. versus San Diego.

STL is clearly beatable if we score. ARZ's D can more than manage STL's offense. Long ago it seems now, Arizona beat all four of these teams this year.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thursday night road games are tough to win. Chalk it up as a loss
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not feeling good about it. Short week, on the road, too many injuries.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hate playing the best worst team in the NFL. But I actually think the short week is a good thing to ride the momentum of the W today... GO CARDS!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They're on a short week too coming off a road game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rams have outscored their opponents 76-0 the last two games which is an eye opener, but doesn't mean much from game to game(that's why they play the game). With the right mind set, the Cards can take them out and bring them down to earth. I'm thinking those two bad loses have the Cards pointed in the right direction. Let's go!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With these 2 defenses it could be the first one to 10 points wins the game
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They played the Raiders who are horrible on the Road and play pretty good at home but have had some bad luck until today when they beat San Fran. They also played a dysfunctional Redskins team that has no clue who is their starting QB. I wouldn't chalk those up as playing lights out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
76-0 is 76-0.

It's the NFL. That's an extremely impressive two weeks.

Oh, and Denver AND Seattle lost in St. Louis. Pretty lights out wins
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree, the rams are definitely better than I thought they would be but I'm very excited for this game. If we win we basically can clinch a playoff spot and after 5 years, after leinart and hall and Anderson and Kolb and Skelton and lindley and whisenpunt it'll feel so good to get back in the playoffs. It just feels good to be a cards fan again and really the only thing that can ruin it is that weird rams fan guy on here with the dancing smiley face. I don't know, but **** that guy. I got off topic, go cards!!!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It will be a battle of defenses. I expect a low scoring game maybe 17-14 or somewhere of the sorts. Hopefully this offense (or defense) can get some points on the board early and establish the run as well. Wouldn't be surprised if this one went into overtime.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No road game in the NFL is easy (ATL should have taught us that). We will have to do a much better job in the red zone and no bouncing field goals off the uprights Cat.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's hard to win in the NFl but any team can win at anytime. I would like a lot of motion, roll outs by Stanton to get that aggressive D off and to tire it out. They over pursue and with that take Ginn on an end around and have him run or flip it down field to a WR. Been to a game at St. Louis and it is LOUD. Our O-line better be ready for that. Need to pick up the temp. Our D knows what it needs to do. Watch for trick plays by the Rams on special teams. Our punter better be ready because I know the Rams are going to try and block a punt!! Our special teams better wake up this week, the Rams will be coming for them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Way to be positive there!!!!

It's a win win for me

If we win, we win
If they win, Seahawks lose.. And let's be honest, cards are a lesser of the three evils.

I agree. Since we can't win the division one of the other 3 has to. I'd rather it be the Cards. I don't actually hate them. But I still wanna kick the snot outta them Thursday.

If we lose I'd be shocked and disappointed, which is a compliment to the rams and not a slight at the cards. They're solid, but our defense has been lights out. Without Palmer and Ellington, the rams should win this at home

This guy must not have watched any Rams games recently. The overpursuit problem has been fixed 4 games into the season.

What kind of a mental midget still uses the term "Lambs?" It doesn't so much annoy me as a Rams fan. It alarms me for the intelligence of some of my fellow human beings and our pitiful educational system. Really people? That's the best you can come up with?

Patrick Peterson VS Rams

Expect PP To have a big game on Thursday night.he always plays his best when it comes to the Rams. I Think BA should let him Return punts just for this Game.
grilling_smilie.gif

----------
You mean when the opposing team has a sub par QB and below average WRs?
----------
Agree, but put PP21 back there for a couple punts vice kickoffs. Rams fans will freak the first time he lines up for the punt. See this clip of Peterson as a skinny rookie v. Rams at ARZ in Nov 2011. Beautiful memories!
----------
We can't risk injuring Patrick on returns, it's why we have Ginn, who does suck but doesn't turn it over.
----------
I think this is a great plan to get another extremely important starter at a key position injured.
---------

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2SL3MlbI-c

If BA decides it's necessary, Peterson can take care of himself versus both the Rams' Defense and Offense on Thursday. All those those plays will be in front of PP21. It's a 'friendly fire' side shot that almost put PP21 on the shelf in the PHI game.

Injuries happen no matter what we do. Sitting PP21 on a bench to preserve his potential is not a brilliant idea either.
-----------
no no no absolutely not! Okay listen here you and the rest of you who may agree. The Rams know how to lay some pipe on opposing teams, last primetime we played them they sacked Kolb 6-8 times (no didn't look up the exact number) ...then they put honey badger out of the game. Memer? Thank. They made Palmer destroy his own knee.

Should Peterson be returning punts? Haven't we learned our lesson?

Nope nopety nope. There I said it

PS the rams also knocked the bajeezies out of Ryan Williams, which may have been on primetime as well.

In this thread someone is suggesting they rest their starters and play their scrubs instead to avoid any boo-boos. Fine with me.

http://forums.azcardinals.com/showthread.php?68939-Keep-it-going-for-Thursday

Keep it going for Thursday

When you can run, you can pass, when you can pass you can run, when you can win the turnover battle you will win some ball games. We have yet another playoff game coming up, this one will come up real fast. Williams was one heck of a surprise, and man I hope he can help keep that lamb defense somewhat honest.

Having some production in the run game changes everything, we watched the seahawks get back to the run, and they have caught fire. If you can't have some decent time of possession in this division, you can forget a banner.

You have to do one to do the other, and you have to do both, run and pass. It even keeps the QB in less danger. It inspires the defense that can go beasting and actually have some results and points to show from it. Intensity was back, we just can't lose it again.

One team will always want to win more than another team, that's us and it has to remain us. No time to dance, much work to do if we want homecourt, and that's the only way we have a true valid shot at making it to the dance.

It's been an amazing year, but we aren't done, please keep your hands and feet inside of the roller coaster. Keep your heart medication handy, because we aren't letting off the gas anytime soon. Injuries will not be an excuse, we are the Arizona Injuries, we love leftovers, shepards pie is our thing.... take whatever you got and cook it up. I think we are going to be able to score in these last 3 games, and that changes everything.
smile.png

----------
The Rams defense is not the KC defense. Going in the Cards knew they could run on the Chiefs. The Rams are in a different league and are straight up balling right now. It is going to be tough.
---------
STL on Thursday night does not worry me at all. I saw the future for the Cardinals yesterday afternoon and the Cardinals' future is bright. On Offense Thursday, I take take Drew Stanton with our multiple good receivers over Shaun Hill and his 1 premier receiver all night long.

On Defense, it's not even close: Arizona will dominate. Arizona has many more tools, much more speed, and hits like bulls. Shaun Hill will give us the 1-2 INTs that we need to take control. And now that Drew has a couple reliable RBs he doesn't have to do it all with accurate throws (which he can't!). I anticipate one of our most balanced offensive attacks of the year with our Defense coming up big again.

Game will be rough for both clubs. There will be pain. I hope for no long-term injuries. Not a big scoring night for either team. 21 points will win it. Win #11 will happen for us late Thursday.
----------
A short week on the road against a tough defense can be recipe for injuries and with the Cardinals luck this year.... Sit Stanton and play all starters sparingly. The winner of the Cardinals Seahawks game will the determine Division West champs anyways. Rather have a healthy team and a loud stadium to beat the Seahawks.
----------
Sit Stanton? Lose on purpose? I don't see any of that happening... at all. We've broken tons of Cardinal curses this year, traveling o a Thursday game is doable, you take every opportunity you can. I can guarantee you we will not sit Stanton, or rest people to wait for the chicken game. We have three divisional games left, if we beat the Lambs and the Chickens, then and only then we can talk about possibly resting players.
-----------
Man I agree. How can you say rest players?? If you've been a die hard cardinal fan since early 80s then you know that 11 win seasons and chances at playoffs are hard to come by. We put our foot on the gas now. Never know when these opportunities come again. Heck 10-6 wasn't good enough last year.

Rams may be the best team in the NFCW right now
Rams are developing into quite a juggernaut right now. Thank God they blew so many games this year. I'm not looking forward to that Thursday night game in St. Louis.
---------
35-0 over the Raiders in the 2nd period. Yikes. Shawn Hill has really energized that team. Who would of thought that?
---------
Calm down kids, this is the Raiders they're facing today. Yes, they have played well lately. But today kinda doesn't count.
---------
With a legit QB i agree, but until that happens we're still just the best 4th place team in the NFL that no one wants to play.
---------
They're one loss from being eliminated from the playoffs. Let them tee off against Oakland. The team is playing spoiler the rest of the season.

Although I'm curious to see what they do at QB next season.
---------
I watch most of their games because they are almost always on early---and, as some of you know, I am an avid Tavon Austin fan. Plus, I always like to watch our division rivals.

The Rams currently have as much talent on their roster as any team in the NFL...but it's young talent that needs to be developed. In a year or two they are going to be potentially dominant, especially if they figure out their QB situation.

---------
I was going to post this post, good observation.

That team is a wrecking crew without a quarterback.

Sound familiar?

Come on, make me eat my words...
-----------
Back to back shutouts! Both against pretty inept offenses, which is a fair comparison to where our Offense stands right now. Although the Raiders put up 24 against the Niners today. Interesting to see how we play on Thursday. Can we forfeit, keep everyone healthy, and use the extra time to prepare for Seattle
---------
As if the Rams aren't tough enough the Cards haven't won a regular season game on a Thursday in at least 44 years if my memory serves me correctly.
---------
Not really - they are still last in the Division.
--------
I actually think the Cardinals have an advantage going into St Louis this Thursday. First its a short week so the Rams have very little time to study game film and devise a game plan for the Cardinals who have just recently inserted a new LG and a new RB. Seems like the game plan for the Cardinals changed this week to feature more running. BA probably has some new wrinkles to throw in too for Thursday so the Rams are not going to see the same Cardinal team they saw last time.

The Rams on the other hand have been playing a set lineup for a few weeks now. Easier for BA and staff to game plan since nothing has changed with the Rams.
----------
curious to see the game plan

the fastest way to lose this game would be to turn the ball over ( duh)

Stanton has been a bit of a high wire act -- a few ball thrown into coverage yesterday.

so -- Does Arians employ a lower risk kind of offense, but one that doesnt play into Stanton's strengths?
---------
Stanton airmailed quite a few yesterday and got away with a few possible interceptions, but have to give credit to him on that td pass to brown. That was thrown so perfect and an even better route/catch by Javon B. Defense has been keeping us in the games and we (and entire cards team) know it. That is how our team rolls. I'll take it.

Big plays on offense have put us ahead, while the defense keeps in it to be able to win. Still love this team and the heart and determination they have. I have yet to give up on them. We will find a way (again) to beat the Rams in their house!
---------
Our defense has to show up in a huge way Thursday night. Personally..... I think we might give up 7 or 8 sacks just like last time we played them on a Thursday. I was there and it wasn't very much fun.
--------
The OL and covering Jared Cook will be huge keys to this game. We have to run the ball to survive in this one. Third and long's will get us blown out and will get Stanton injured.

Their backup rookie RB rolled last week. Still, meh.

I don't know how an offensive challenged team can go on the road on a short week against a team that has won it's last two games 76-0 and have much confidence. They are talking like all they need to do is play their game and it's wrapped up. They were lucky to have won the first against a 4th string QB. Do they think this is remotely the same team? "Play their game?" No, they'll have to play better than "their game."

we win this week. 5-11 is what I expected for cardinals in 2014. Boy I was wrong. How did they get here with half the talent of Rams team?

Same here, I don't know why I though that now.

This will be a tough game, but Hill is starting this time and I think it makes all the difference.

Bruce Arians is a good head coach and Todd Bowles is a good DC. Good coaching can make quite a difference.

I thought they would roll this season until they lost Palmer. They are definitely playing above their pay grade.

I have chatted with some Cardinal homers, and said this....
"The whole game plan of being behind until the 4th quarter, and then relying on a 3rd string Rams QB to throw two INT/PICK Sixes.......Especially WITHOUT Palmer AND Ellington...AND, we Have Chris Long in a Greg Williams system that everyone on the D is playing instinctively..unlike earlier in the season....

Yeah, nothing has changed about the same old sorry Rams.
