I guess I'll continue to post updates on Bountygate case here...

On Wednesday of this week the Judge requested that NFLPA lawyers demonstrate that they do not have a "conflict of interest" because she [the judge] is clearly frustrated by lack of settlement talks between player's lawyers & NFL lawyers. Judge thinks previous hostilities between both side's lawyers is keeping them from the settlement table, and therefore hindering an out of court settlement. It seems the judge would rather have the party's settle then forcing her to make a legal ruling.

@SportsLawGuy

Judge Berrigan just ordered NFLPA Bounty counsel to show cause by noon tmrw whether they should be disqualified for conflict of interest
@SportsLawGuy

Judge Berrigan: "it appears to the Ct that there is longstanding acrimony among all of the attorneys representing all of the parties..."
@SportsLawGuy

"that predates these disputes and that the Court believes is contrary to the interests of all four players"

@SportsLawGuy

No secret Kessler battled NFL in CBA negs, collusion case, etc. Judge questioning whether that presents conflict preventing settlement.

Today, Thursday, the NFLPA lawyers submitted a brief to the Judge in response to her "conflict of interest" issue. From their documents, it is the NFL who have refused settlement talks, but are instead offering the players another shot at a disciplinary hearing with Goodell. The players have agreed to submit to a new hearing ONLY if the NFL agrees to keep these hearing confidential, and not use the information in court against the players, but the NFL refused the players' request. Hence, we're at a stalemate. Back to the Judge to figure out what to do next.
@SportsLawGuy

Meaty filing by the NFLPA to J Berrigan. PA says that NFL has refused settlement talks but offered plyrs new discipinary hearing with RG
@SportsLawGuy

Players rejected new hearing because NFL would not agree to keep confidential or to not use against plyrs in court
@SportsLawGuy

PA offers to provide separate legal counsel for players in settlement talks if court so wishes.
