EARTH CITY, Mo. -- A look at playing time and performance of each of the St. Louis Rams' drafted rookies and a quick glimpse at the undrafted rookie class in Sunday’s 28-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
WR Tavon Austin, first round, No. 8 overall: With the Rams run game revving as well as it has all year, Austin’s opportunities were limited not only in terms of snaps but also in targets.
Austin played 29 offensive plays and 10 more on special teams. He was targeted twice as a receiver with no catches, though one pass was a deep ball that was just a bit overthrown by Kellen Clemens and might have gone for a touchdown.
As a returner, Austin had three punt returns for 33 yards, including a long of 24. That one he nearly broke for a touchdown. He also had a kick return for 25 yards.
LB Alec Ogletree, first round, No. 30 overall: As usual, Ogletree was busy, playing 62 defensive snaps and three more on special teams. He had six tackles and a pass defended in unofficial pressbox statistics but also struggled to get off blocks and make plays against the run.
S T.J. McDonald, third round, No. 71 overall: McDonald missed his fifth game of the year after suffering a leg fracture against San Francisco. He’s currently on the injured reserve/designated to return list.
WR Stedman Bailey, third round, No. 92 overall: Hello, Mr. Bailey. After nearly a half season wait, Bailey found himself involved in the offense for something more than a simple cameo. He played 11 snaps on offense, catching his first pass and showing some grit by battling forward for 12 yards and a first down. He also played 18 snaps on special teams where he had a pair of tackles.
OL Barrett Jones, fourth round, No. 113 overall: Jones was a pre-game inactive and did not play for the ninth consecutive game. He remains behind Tim Barnes as the team’s third center and second backup interior lineman right now.
CB Brandon McGee, fifth round, No. 149 overall: Relegated back to a special teams only role, McGee played 16 snaps there, posting a tackle in unofficial pressbox statistics.
RB Zac Stacy, fifth round, No. 160 overall: Despite a bum ankle that limited his work in practice all week, Stacy not only started but carried the full load and put together the best performance of his young career.
In 61 offensive snaps, Stacy had 33 touches for 178 yards and a pair of touchdowns as he put the offense on his back.
Undrafted rookie roundup: Running back Benny Cunningham returned from an ankle injury and played nine snaps on offense and four on special teams. He served as Stacy’s primary backup, carrying three times for 11 yards but coughed up a costly fumble on the team’s opening drive. … Linebackers Ray Ray Armstrong and Daren Bates played their usual full workload on special teams with 18 snaps apiece. … Safety Cody Davis logged 13 plays on special teams, also.
