First, here’s a primer on how the odds are determined.

The opening odds are set by various Nevada sports books in the winter. From there, the betting public — any person with the cash on hand to make a minimum future-book bet of five bucks or so — goes to work. The odds move as the public places their bets.

The following 18 clubs have lower Super Bowl odds than when betting began: the 49ers, Packers, Saints, Eagles, Colts, Bengals, Bears, Steelers, Ravens, Giants, Lions, Rams, Cowboys, Texans, Vikings, Jets, Browns and Raiders. In short, something happened to convince Caesars to cut the price, to make it a little less sweet of a deal for bettors.

By contrast, the Broncos, Cardinals, Chiefs, Falcons, Panthers, Buccaneers, Titans and Jaguars all have higher odds than when betting started.

The Jaguars, at 200-1, are the longest shot on the board at Caesars — and it’s not close. To wit: every other club has odds of 75-1 or lower.

Below are the Super Bowl odds at the Caesars Entertainment sportsbooks as of July 21 with PFT’s rating of each club in parentheses. The teams are ordered by their odds to win Super Bowl 49 at Caesars:

T-1) Seattle Seahawks: 5-1. (PFT rank: 1.) Opening odds: 5-1.

T-1) Denver Broncos: 5-1. (PFT rank: 3.) Opening odds: 4-1.

3) San Francisco 49ers: 5.5-1. (PFT rank: 2.) Opening odds: 6-1.

Is this bad? I mean, it's better than 500-1 right? If I bet $100 dollars, will I win $2800 +$100 (original bet)?

Sounds about right. Notice that the Cardinals are set at 35-1.

I placed my bets yesterday! NFC west champs, NFC champs, Superbowl champs, +7.5 wins and Arron Donald DROY!

Didn't bet much, not much discretionary income, but like I said in another thread...I have this feeling.

Last time the Rams won the super bowl they went off at 200-1.

Odds have nothing to do with predictions.

Yes, 2,800 plus your $100 minus the vig (commission) for placing the bet.

28 to 1 means you keep the 1.

28 for 1 means they keep the 1.

Fun facts!

Worst non-bet I ever made was in 99'. I was in Vegas and just KNEW the Rams we're going to shock some people.
I didn't make much money back then but I was going to put $100 down. It was 300 to freaking 1 that year.

You can already read the rest of the story. "Brian the dipstick doesn't put a lousy $100 down" and never sees $30K in return. What an idiot I was. Ugh. Not the same odds now but still worth $100!

Highest margin I saw when I was there was 300/1. I think it's still the record or close to in football, yeah?

Could have been 300 early on.

If that's not the record. I don't know what could be.

This is the best lesson about odds. They mean nothing. Just the presence of Marshal Faulk, Isaac Bruce, and Trent Green should have lowered these odds but what does the betting public know? The Rams haven't had odds that high since and the've fielded a lot worse teams on paper.

I know my stupidity cost me a ton of $$. And those odds will likely never happen again.

Oddsmaker: Bengals (8-1) have become “fashionable” Super Bowl bet
Posted by Mike Wilkening on October 2, 2014

The Bengals have a bandwagon?

The Bengals have a bandwagon.

Yes, Cincinnati, one of the NFL’s last two unbeaten teams, has garnered some respect from the betting public at one of Nevada’s major sports books.

At the MGM Resorts International hotels in the state, the Bengals are now 8-1 to win Super Bowl 49; only the Seahawks and Broncos (4-1 apiece) have shorter odds.

The Bengals “are the fashionable pick the last couple of weeks by far,” Jay Rood, the vice president of race and sports at MGM, told PFT on Thursday.

Support for Cincinnati has outpaced interest in fellow unbeaten Arizona, Rood indicated. The Cardinals (3-0) are 22-1 at the MGM hotels.

As Week Five begins, here are Super Bowl odds for all 32 NFL teams at MGM. Odds are as of Sept. 29:

Broncos: 4-1.

Seahawks: 4-1.

Bengals: 8-1.

49ers: 8-1.

Patriots: 10-1.

Packers: 13-1.

Chargers: 14-1.

Colts: 17-1.

Eagles: 20-1.

Cardinals: 22-1.

Ravens: 22-1.

Cowboys: 25-1.

Bears: 30-1.

Falcons: 30-1.

Lions: 30-1.

Steelers: 30-1.

Texans: 35-1.

Giants: 40-1.

Saints: 40-1.

Panthers: 45-1.

Dolphins: 50-1.

Vikings: 60-1.

Browns: 75-1.

Chiefs: 80-1.

Bills: 100-1.

Washington: 100-1.

Jets: 150-1.

Rams: 150-1.

Buccaneers: 200-1.

Titans: 250-1.

Jaguars: 750-1.

Raiders: 999-1.
