49ers coach Jim Harbaugh may not be worried about his future, but the consistent flow of reports about his potential departure from the team means that plenty of people are watching to see what happens when the season comes to an end.

A good number of them will be in Ann Arbor, Michigan. According to multiple reports, the University of Michigan has fired head football coach Brady Hoke. Hoke had a Tuesday meeting with the school’s interim athletic director Jim Hackett, who is expected to officially announce the news at a 4:30 p.m. ET press conference.

Harbaugh spent several years growing up in Ann Arbor when his father was an assistant on Bo Schembechler’s staff and he played quarterback for Schembechler before embarking on his NFL career. Michigan was interested in hiring Harbaugh when he took the 49ers job in 2011 and is expected to be interested in him again now that things with Hoke have gone south.

Harbaugh may be the top name on the list, but he won’t be the only one. As with the openings at Florida and Nebraska, Michigan could be a landing spot for others on NFL coaching staffs and their new hires will likely wind up affecting the professional coaching carousel one way or another.

Harbaugh is a natural fit. He would get to run the whole show and wouldn't have to worry about fighting the GM.

Tears of joy are pouring from the eyes of my brother-in-law, his Dad, and his Uncle.
