The 2016 Olympics are upon us and spirits across the sports world are soaring. Unfortunately there is no Olympic American football, so I decided to ponder who would be on the Team USA roster for football.

Dan Schmelzer of Fansided NFL put together a Team USA football roster and it includes two fan-favorite Rams. That’s right, defensive tackle Aaron Donald and punter Johnny Hekker made the team. Houston’s J.J. Watt is also on the team and, oh, what a team it would be. How on earth would anyone block two unblockable beasts on the defensive line? The answer, they wouldn’t.

“Aaron Donald is quickly giving Watt a run for his money as the most dominant defensive player in the NFL. Donald is not quite on that level yet, but I would not be surprised to see him make a serious run at NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.

Donald is a bit under-sized at defensive tackle, but his quickness and all-around pass rush ability is elite. He is definitely best served as a three-technique in a four-man defensive front, but similar to Watt, Donald has the skill-set to shine in anything that he does.”

Punters are people too, and Hekker doesn’t let us forget it. With a team this good, a punter would be almost obsolete, so it is impressive that a punter even made the team. If they had to punt, however, Hekker would dominate.

“With Brady and company on the field, I do not think this Team USA offense will have much use for a punter. That being said, Johnny Hekker is currently the best in the business and would be a fantastic choice for the team.”

So there you have it. Two Rams made the hypothetical roster and more could make this team in the future. One Ram that stands out in particular is Todd Gurley, who is looking forward to being the heir to Adrian Peterson. Of course he will have to keep waiting and playing, because Peterson appears to be going nowhere any time soon.
