Not exactly true.
The Rams fired everyone on staff, with the exception of McDaniels, who had a contract for 2012. The Rams let him seek employment elsewhere which meant whoever would take him would be responsible for his contract. The Patriots obliged and took him back. But make no mistake, the Rams were letting him go

To me, it was clear... and many have said it... failure to bring in an experienced NFL OC with a proven track record of success.

It really is this simple, although I might tweak it to say that it didn't necessarily have to be an experienced OC, just one in tune with modern NFL offenses (note that Martz had zero experience as an OC before he was hired by DV). But yes, his OC hires went from bad, to worse, to gawd-awful, and it was clear that between his ultra-conservative offensive philosophy and his unwillingness or inability to land a good OC and then just leave him alone to do their thing instead of trying to imprint his philosophy on them.

As far as McDaniels goes, I can't see him working well with Fisher anyway, since Fisher's player acquisition philosophy is to emphasize athleticism above all else while McDaniels offense emphasizes getting smart players. That's why they get great production out of smart guys like Chris Hogan. Under Fisher the Rams chose athletes like Brian Quick who never gave us any consistent production.

IMO, the turning point with him was promoting from within to run an NFL offense.
Really should have tried to lure someone who had experience doing that.
That said, I'm still not sold on our receivers, so who knows what woulda happened.

Not sure our offense was much of a lure for an established OC. Might not have had much of a choice. Fisher probably was choosing which unproven guy and decided it might as well be someone that already knows what he wants.

Thanks to all who pointed out I mis-remembered how this all went down. I guess my wife's right about my increasing forgetfulness

But my main point was about the time and place where Fisher thought "Crap, this passing offense just gives me the heebee jeebies, let's get back to running!" was the beginning of the end.

I would LOVE to see/hear the conversations between Fisher and Snead about trading up for Tavon, and the impact it would have on this offense. Given, this "offense". I guess I'll have to email Belichick for the hidden camera footage...
