Trumaine Johnson allowed the second-lowest QB rating in 2015

With the offseason hitting the Los Angeles Rams hard in the secondary, they were unable to bring back both cornerback Janoris Jenkins and safety Rodney McLeod. On the bright side, they were able to bring back their No. 1 CB Trumaine Johnson, and it seems like that may have been the right choice.

According to Pro Football Focus, Johnson allowed the second-lowest QB rating in 2015. Remember, Johnson faced the likes of Russell Wilson (twice) Carson Palmer (twice), Andy Dalton and Aaron Rodgers.

Lowest NFL QB rating against for CBs last season:

1. @J_No24, 54.0
2. @Trujohnson2, 55.0
3. @Revis24, 56.5
4. @QRollins2, 58.4

Johnson joins the ranks of other superb CBs such as Josh Norman, Darrelle Revis and Quinten Rollins. For the Rams, it’s important they lock up Johnson to a long-term deal soon, because he is truly the face of their secondary.

As for Johnson, 2015 was his best year as a member of the Rams. He recorded 71 combined tackles, along with seven interceptions, while returning one of those interceptions for a touchdown. Johnson’s seven INTs ranked him No. 3 in the NFL last season.

It’s clear Johnson is finding momentum as he enters his fifth season in the league. The question is, without the help of Jenkins and McLeod, can Johnson be a lockdown cornerback once again in 2016?

PFF: Packers CB Quinten Rollins excelled in rookie season

In last year’s draft, the Green Bay Packers selected cornerback Quinten Rollins out of Miami (Ohio). And he was able to have a very solid rookie season as Pro Football Focus gave him an overall grade of plus 7.7, the 22nd highest grade for a cornerback.

Here’s what PFF had to say about Rollins.

Rollins graded positively in coverage, against the run, and even chipped in with a sack and two hurries as a pass-rusher in his rookie season. Targeted 39 times in coverage, he gave up 22 receptions, but didn’t allow a touchdown and came away with two interceptions and five pass breakups.

Rollins played in 14 games with four starts and posted 27 tackles to go with his one sack, two interceptions and one defensive touchdown. His best game was against the Rams where he notched to two interceptions and also recorded two tackles.

Top draft decision-maker for the Green Bay Packers
Rollins had such a good rookie season, he ranked eighth in PFF’s 10 best 2015 rookie performers not drafted in the first round. He will likely see more playing time this upcoming season especially with Casey Hayward gone.

Rollins should only continue to improve the longer he plays cornerback. He’s starting from a strong base. Maybe his stubborn confidence is most important. Rollins said he hasn’t felt like a rookie since Week 5, when Whitt told him he’d moved past that status.

Later that week, he had two interceptions and his first NFL touchdown against the St. Louis Rams.

Round 2: Quinten Rollins, CB, Miami (OH)
Grade: A

Our favorite corner from a school outside the Power 5 in the draft, only one player had more combined interceptions and pass breakups than Rollins’ 15 (seven interceptions and eight pass breakups). Those numbers are all the more impressive considering Rollins played just one season of college football after four years of basketball. For the year he allowed a 53.8% catch rate, 1.02 yards per coverage snap, and a 45.6 quarterback rating against. Level of competition is definitely a concern, but he showed well against Cincinnati and at the Senior Bowl.

wow I remember seeing that when it happened and I always thought he got beat and luckily made up for it but watching it from that angle and at that speed I think he meant to let cooper "beat" him inside so he could force the pass and make a play. interesting

Was that Cook who didn't finish his route and allowed Rollins to make the interception? Hope he continues to play like that for Green Bay.

Impossible. Tru didn't cover any #1 WRs. He is a #2 CB in this league. Janoris is greater than all.
