IF it were my call, I would trade Trumaine right now for the best offer I can find. Corners are a need for a lot of teams in terms of upgrading the position for this season, and someone will move a pick for him and probably pay him too. I'm sure Cleveland, for example, would love to have him step right into Williams' defense there.

I agree with most of your post unfortunately Tru has all the power in regards to trades. If Tru doesn't want to go somewhere he isn't going. Supposedly that's what happened to New Orleans trying to trade for him and I think I remember rumors that Miami was also in the mix but Tru didn't want to go there because he wants to stay in LA. So all he has to do is say "you can trade for me but I'm sticking to my one year contract and you're paying me $17 million no matter what and I'll probably leave after that". Unless we trade him for literally peanuts but that would take some major relationship implosions before they would do that I'm sure.

Yeah no doubt. I'd try, and worst case scenario he'd play for us this season. But I'd definitely open up competition for his spot, since playing time is one of the areas the team still does have power, and make him work for it.

I liked how coach (made sure he?) mentioned that he was happy with how the other DBs competed in tru 's absence. The fact that the rams drafted DBs in addition to signing Webster, who did very well in our new defensive system while in Denver, is another reason I would wouldn't be missing any team activity time. But hey, that's just me.

However, if Webster and Gaines become the starters, and I give that scenario a decent shot, and tru ends up playing inside, that may hurt his next contract.

its not a settlement, its a protection in that an injury can result in a team trying to give their rookie less than what they are suppose to make based on the cba rookie wage scales. yes, its less than tru's 16.7m but its a 4 year contract where as tru's is 1 year. a rookie has little to no leverage/reason to sit out OTAs for contract reasons because they are basically guaranteed a certain contract based on where they were draft. Tru has leverage/reason to sit out OTAs because he only locked up for 1 year so an injury is WAAAAAAAAAAY more likely to affect his next contract than an injury would affect a rookies because its so far away.

There is a reason most players hate playing under the tag, and its because they prefer a long term deal in case of an injury, which is exactly what every drafted rookie is guaranteed to get once they are drafted.
But they aren't guaranteed a contract, and unless they sign one they are screwed if they get injured.
That's the point, they have all the risk, the most to lose. But you are correct, they HAVE to be there.
I don't agree that players hate the tag, I sure don't think Tru does. He definitely has made more money, guaranteed or otherwise by being tagged. And now he holds all the cards. Tru signed his tender both years within minutes (ok a day or two), he didn't take any risk.
So again, it is apples to oranges, rookies who need the injury protection don't have it, and the veterans who have already gotten their $$ get the protection. Just doesn't seem right

Unless the Rams are serious playoff contenders, I would think they trade Tru close to the trade deadline for whatever they could get

I'm not sure what you're not getting. All drafted rookies sign an agreement with their team stating if they get injured before signing their rookie contract (which is preset by the current cba and very few things about it can be negotiated, money not being one of them) the team MUST!!!! Negotiate in good faith meaning said injury can not affect their contract in anyway. So yes their contract is guaranteed in that sense

Depends upon what the Rams required in return. There might be a team that would take on Johnson with his one year franchise tender for a late round draft choice.

Rams' cornerback Trumaine Johnson again is absent from OTA workouts
Gary KleinContact Reporter
Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson remained absent from organized team activity workouts Wednesday, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

Only one workout per week is open to reporters.

Johnson, who will be paid nearly $17 million this season while playing under the franchise tag for a second time, also did not attend Tuesday’s practice.

Coach Sean McVay said after Tuesday’s workout that he did not know why Johnson was absent but emphasized that the 10 OTA workouts are voluntary.

Les Snead has said the team would use OTAs to determine if Johnson is a good fit for the 3-4 scheme of new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.

Johnson’s situation appears to have fallen behind Donald’s as far as team priorities.

Pro Bowl selection in each of his three NFL seasons, is due to be paid about $3.2 million in salary and bonuses this season. The Rams also picked up a fifth-year option that would pay him about $6.9 million in 2018. Snead has said that Donald deserves a raise and that the Rams are in negotiations with Donald’s representatives.

There are five OTA workouts remaining. The Rams also will hold a mandatory minicamp June 13-15.

My take is either a long term contract is in the works or (less likely scenario) a trade is. Until it gets worked out he's not gonna get potentially injured in the mean time, as no other player woukd. Or by some chance something happened outside of football.

Can't wait to see people going off the deep end over this. Let's wait and see guys...please.

I seem to remember reading something about the Rams wanting to see if Tru fit into Wade's system...maybe about a week before OTAs... I kind of thought at the time that it was kind of a shot at Tru...maybe to impact negotiations...

but maybe that's one of the reason is a no-show, no-call...

to be honest...

I'd like to move on from both Tru and Tavon if we could without killing us with the cap....maybe even add Barron too...

we need to lock in Donald and have some cap space moving forward...

Agreed on Tru, disagree with Tavon and Barron.
