I voted Talib, but honestly I’ll trust Wade on this.

He didn’t have an NT last year and we faced a bevy of interior run teams so we know that’s an issue.

With greater interior pressure, is Troy Hill enough that we basically have what we need as long as NRC is 100%?

We know that more pressure equals less coverage time, so maybe the best CB2 is a beast NT.

I dunno. Lots of unknowns atm.
The more talent, the merrier. The quality of your defensive backfield is crucial to being successful come play off time. An injury or two can be devastating. We're in a great position to have a deep, ball hawking group this year. They also contribute to sack production.

I voted for Tru J. Like other posters said. He wants to be here. I know that Talib has a history with our defensive coordinator, but I don't think we need that much attitude in the backfield. Where just raw talent and scheme is concerned, Talib gets the nod. However, Trumaine is in horns and he is a very talented corner who is younger.

I voted TJ. I think he excels in the CB2 role. Maybe the money is there to keep him now. Hopefully a slightly reduced rate.

Tru is the better player now and going forward. He is a big part of our locker room and proved himself capable in Wades defense.

It was one thing when it wasnt known how he would do.

I would take Tru. At this point in their careers he seems like the better corner (if Talib IS currently better, then it's close enough not to concern me), and a better bet to do it for longer. His teammates seem to love him, and his coaches do too, and the value of camaraderie and consistency shouldn't be underestimated.

Without Marcus Peters, my answer would probably be different, as I think we need a tough man-coverage guy and Talib fits that mold. With Peters, we can be more selective with our matchups, and that's when I think Tru really shines.

With money taken into account, I take Tru all the way up to 12 million, Talib up to 10 million, and if they're priced out of those targets, wouldn't bend much more for them.

I voted Talib.

Let’s see...

Better CB straight up.

Much better scheme fit for Wade.

Would only cost $11 million this year and $8 million next, probably saving $7 million over the 2 years.

That’s 3 for 3, fellas. Unless you think he would disrupt our locker room when Wade failed to control him? Lol.

Seriously, we need to pay attention. Wade is interested in putting “his type” of players in every possible position.

Joyner now a FS.
Quinn now a goner.
Brockers now a DE.
JJ now a SS (instead of Alexander)
MP now a CB for Wade.

I don’t see any reason to think that Wade is done with inserting his type of players at NT, OLB, or ILB, either. I look for new faces as starters at all of those positions. Might be FA’s, might be draft picks. Probably both. But Wade is gonna have “his players” when all is said and done.

I voted before I read the money doesn't count. Well money counts and I voted for Talib. I always liked him as a good press cover corner. Now he may have slowed down but I'm not sure. I'll take till you for 2 years on his contract and hope he doesn't slow down much.

Let's "try" to leave out the money/contract stuff....and focus on talent, scheme fit and the locker room for this decision.

Would you rather retain Trumaine Johnson or bring in Aquib Talib as our CB2?

Pretty hard to leave out the money as that is a huge part of the equation. I voted for TruJo, but without the "try" to leave out the money, I would have gone for Talib. The "money" is a big deal, as we need to extend other players besides TruJo. If we were to sign Talib for 2 or 3 years for significantly less than the likely16 mil + than we'd have to part with to sign TruJo, it would allow us to keep guys like Aaron Donald, Robey-Coleman, etc. .. We'd also have more time to season a young draft prospect without having to throw him into the fire right away.

Talent, age, scheme fit and locker room presence are the reasons TruJo received my vote.

Gotta win in the trenches 1st, so go get NT preferred adding a good not great one in FA , then take BPA in draft. And I might be leading toward Edge Rusher. Adding a Edge Rusher w/ quick twitch movement to AD99 & MB90 would be crazy good imho

I picked Tailb, hes a better press cb and cheaper

Anybody else get slightly influenced by Peters when he said Talib is a corner he looks up too. He was also able to articulate what he liked about his game.

Even if you leave out the money, signing Talib and moving on from TruJo also would net a likely 3rd round pick next year.

Talib + Peters= Trouble.

One problem child OK, but two? In the same backfield?

Talent-wise that would be great. But definitely could see a huge risk.

Peters seems like an excellent gamble. But chain-yanking Talib seems like he’s got a whole extra level of bullshit.

I voted Talib, mainly because Peters will be a UFA in two years and we might want to keep him. If we could keep Johnson for 2 years and 20 mil. than o.k. but I would not give Johnson a contract that has any guaranteed money beyond two years. Talib's two years and 19 mil. works out perfectly for the Rams, Sorry, I can't leave contracts out of the equation, but I would still prefer Talib because he is the better corner.

Talib, he is a better CB than Tru.
Well, let’s hope this turns out to be the thread winner.

I posted earlier that I was concerned Talib’s personality might be a dangerous mix with Peters. But now, I am chugging the Kool Aid.

Two combustible personalities.

But two of the best CB’s in the game.

In the same secondary.

Super Bowl or bust.

The way it oughta be.

Talib or TJ...who cares. Let's rather talk about the Rams.

We got Peters...his side of the field is now closed for business...

We have Talib...taking on the #2 receiver, and therefore closed for business as well...

Hell to the yes!
