Now before i begin, just letting everyone know that even if the Rams were 8-0 i'd still be making this mock and scouting prospects, its something i really have come to enjoy over the past 3 years. I am not going to mock players we release or let walk, as i feel most of us agree on what players could be potentially gone next season, and also because i spend way to much time on that if i get into it.

Will Schotty be back? This has been a hot topic for us Rams fans, but im not going to get into that here. I do not think Fisher will get rid of Schotty, and that the only way he leaves is if he gets a HC position. There are way to many possibilities for a replacement if that happens to even begin going through them all. So i will just wait till offseason to see what happens. Same goes for Walton.

So lets begin this magic show of awesomeness!!!!!!(kinda long btw)

Trades!!!!!!!! yes...trades!!!!!!

Simple trades since mocking trades are not easy.

Trade #1 - We trade back our first pick a few slots to the Browns for their 1st and a 3rd.
Trade #2 - We trade back our second round pick to the Jets for their 2nd and a 5th.

Simple enough? Still with me? good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.1
Louis Nix III
Defensive Tackle
Notre Dame
6'3, 357 lbs

louis-nix-top25.jpg

2011 - 12 solo tackles, 45 total tackles, 4.5 tackle for loss, .5 sacks, 1 pass defended,
2012 - 20 solo tackles, 50 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 5 passes defended, 1 FF
2013 - 9 solo tackles, 22 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 passes defended
(missed the latest two games)

Nix is an elite run-stuffer who has the quickness, strength and athleticism to also be a disruptive force and is the best defensive tackle prospect in the 2014 NFL draft. He has extremely rare burst off of the ball and is very strong. You will not see him slow down on a play regardless if the play appears to be dead which is very important. Nix is also very versatile despite being a hefty 357 lbs. He can play, and be very productive in either a 3-4 or 4-3. He is not strictly a nose tackle. If there is one negative you could take away from Louis Nix it would be his angles. He sometimes loses the play and is left chasing back for it. The fact that a 342 pound man is chasing after plays may tell you more good things then bad about him. Louis Nix III will be a day one starter. Expect big things from him at the next level.

1.2
Jason Verrett
Cornerback
Texas Christian University(TCU)
5'10, 176 lbs

Jason+Verrett+TCU+v+Texas+n9_iPOm9COul.jpg

2011 - 40 solo tackles, 58 total tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 int, 5 passes defended
2012 - 46 solo tackles, 63 total tackles, 5 TFL, 6 int's, 22 passes defended
2013 - 26 solo tackles, 34 total tackles, 3.5 TFL, 2 int's, 12 passes defended

Jason Verrett might not have great size or bulk, but he’s an exceptional athlete who features top-notch instincts. Verrett is so fluid with his movements that receivers have a difficult time creating separation. His impact on the game is enhanced by his excellent ball skills which helps him generate turnovers.
The thing I love the most about Verrett is how he can shut down a receiver in every aspect of the game. His explosiveness allows him to quickly close on short routes like slants, outs and comebacks. While his ball skills and long speed to help him protect the deep part of the field.
Despite his small stature, Verrett isn’t afraid to play physical. He’s aggressive versus the run and will take on bigger running backs as they approach.

One of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe award.

2.1
Denzel Perryman
Linebacker
University of Miami

Watch this vid!!!!!

2011 - 47 solo tackles, 69 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 FF
2012 - 45 solo tackles, 64 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1 int, 1 td, 1 FF
2013 - 41 solo tackles, 63 total tackles

Perryman is one of my favorite prospects in the entire draft. He is a ferocious hitting, tackling machine with great instincts and a non stop motor. Although has played moslty at ILB, he has the skills to play OLB as well. Tremendous against the run with great vision of breaking down the play, is also no slouche in coverage. UM has churned out many great linebackers over the years, and Perryman is next in line. If the Rams feel RayRay will eventually be Dunbars replacement, then this won't be the pick, but if they think RayRay won't ever be a true starter, then this guy is my choice hands down.

Morgan Moses
Offensive Tackle
Virginia

Has played RT most of his career but has been moved to LT this year and has played well. Can play RT for us and potentially be a LT down the road if he improves in some areas and gets stronger.

2011 - 31 solo tackles, 43 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 int's, 7 passes defended, 2 FF
2012 - 52 solo tackles, 100 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 int's 5 FF
2013 - 32 solo tackles, 47 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 3 int's, 2 FF

Pryor is another prospect i really love. His game against Rutgers was better than any i had seen from Clinton-Dix, and i watched every video i could find from both players. His game against Rutgers was the best he has played, and shows the potential he has and plays he can make. Pryor might declare or might stay in school. There was a rumor earlier in the year he was going to declare, though if he stayed for another year would have a good chance of being a first rounder next year.

Pryor is a hard hiting, ballhawking free safety who would give us a great and fierce safety tandem.

One of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe award.

2010 - 24 attempts, 141 yards
2011 - 106 attempts, 566 yard, 6 td's, 10 receptions, 73yards
2012 - 185 attempts, 970 yards, 8 td's, 8 receptions, 51yards, 1 td
2013 - 96 attempts, 701 yards, 7 td's, 8 receptions, 64yards, 1 td
*suspended first 3 weeks of 2013

Hyed was suspended the first 3 games of the season for conduct not representative of this football program. He is a big bruiser who has speed as well. Since he has come back from the suspension has been an absolute beast. Paired with Stacy and Richardson, our once weak runningback group becomes complete. Hs been rumored that he runs a sub 4.5, and given his wieght, that is pretty dang good. Has yet to be tackled behind the line of scrimmage this season.

Heavily decorated guard who was a walk on but started every game his sophomore and junior seasons and everygame this year till injury. Plays mean and great in run blocking. A big nasty to take up a guard slot. Also would give us yet another Long, can never have to many of those!!!!!

*Suffered knee injury in October and will be out for the rest of the month

We have Black lightning, we have white thunder, now we have.....White Lightning. Reportably runs a 4.3!!!! Can compete with our wr corp and push for a slot. Tall speedster who i think can make the roster, but not sure if we cut someone or go with 6 wr's. Still like him and want to draft him.

2012 - 275/407, 67.6%, 3373 yards, 27 td's, 9 int's
129 rushing attempts, 619 yards, 8 td's
2013 - 136/196, 69.4%, 1388 yards, 18 td's, 2 int's
55 rushing attempts, 241 yards, 2 td's

*tore ACL in first half of 6th game of 2013 season.(early October)

Keeton had played himself up to the 3rd round grade before he tore his ACL in early October. He is a duel threat QB but doesn't look to run first. Keeton has showing toughness, impeccable instincts and the arm talent to put the ball on a line to his targets all over the field. While he hasn't lit up elite competition, his quarterbacking traits are top of the line. A mobile gunslinger is what i see. I like the idea of having a back-up who is mobile and can pass down the field, i also think he the potential for more if it ever came down to it down the road. Is a mix of Romo, Newton and Wilson IMO.

Pierre Desir CB, Lindenwood
Antone Exum S/CB, VT
Stanley Jean-Baptiste CB, Nebraska
Marcus Williams CB, North Dakota
Haha Clinton-Dix S, ALA
Dion Bailey S, USC
Nickoe Whitley S, Miss St.

Just too much defensive focus for me. Nix is a fine pick. I don't think I'd take a CB and LB with our next two picks unless they were incredible value.

But gotta see how the board falls.

I like the information you provided though and can understand why you chose who you chose. Good job!

I love that first round. I think we may end up having to trade up to get Nix depending on where we end up. I think he will end up being one of the most valued players in the draft.
I really like the idea of Keeton as well. Have gotten to see him play in person a couple of times and he is impressive. The injury is not a concern as he will have plenty of time to develop. If he is there in the 6th or 7th that is a great value.

If you want, you can switch around the Perryman and Moses pick....

I don't usually have 3 defensive players going in a row like that, this is just one of the rare cases that just fell together that way. Thanks for the props.

I like it other than ,I wouldn't trade a 1st for a 2nd and 5th not getting enough. I would get a different CB and draft A WR higher.
thanks for the thread and the videos

I think there will be a run on qb's/ot's and a few other top players and Nix can be had while still trading back a few spots. Glad you like Keeton!!!! i think he can be something special.

I didnt trade a 1st rounder for a 2nd and 5th, i traded a 1st for a 1st and a 3rd, just moved back a couple slots basically.

As for the CB, that was a hard decision. I liked Purifoy and the Oregon CB and a few others that are 1st round worthy, just decided i liked what Verrett has shown compared to the others.

Glad you liked the vids, i actually had vids for almost all the prospects, but it limited me to only posting 5 :(

Nice work! I don't have anywhere near your knowledge of college prospects but after reading the reports absolutely could learn to love this draft. After the season I'll do some more digging but am anxious to see where your picks slot out. Love the trade downs too, BTW.

I know it's not a need at all, but I love Eric Ebron, TE UNC. Also like the Tarheel LT James Hurst who can probably be had in the 2nd. Can you tell I'm a UNC alum? :cheese:

Lol yea i can. I like Ebron as well, but as you said, not really a need. I also really liked Hurst and had us taking him in the 2nd for a while, but i think he might go in the 1st so had to change it up.

Great work. I can't get on the draft wagon quite yet, just doesn't feel right to me yet. Love the descriptions, appreciate the hard work.

Based on where we will probably pick, we should have our choice of either WR Mike Evans, Marquise Lee, or DeAndre Hopkins. And based on the fact that we just haven't hit on a true solid WR yet, I think we will be forced yet again to draft one high. These three are much more polished than Tavon Austin at the position of WR, and *should* be able to make an immediate impact. And maybe some of the guys we already have drafted from previous years will step up (Givens, Quick, calling you out here) - who knows - but it doesn't look like anyone is going to step up thus far...so we keep on drafting em until we hit big on one.

And I highly doubt Hyde falls that far. He looks like a lock for the 2nd rd if he runs anywhere near 4.50 40.

In the 1st rd I'd like:

1a DeAndre Hopkins
1b HaHa Clinton-Dix

I feel like this would make our offense and defense immediately better. Also we need to start thinking about finding one of those athletic freak MLBs to replate JL55. I love JL, I'm from OSU, I live in Columbus, and I've met the dude - he's a great guy. But he just isn't a very good MLB. He's the worst MLB in our division now, all of our foes have pretty much the top 4 best MLBs in the game: Willis, Bowman (2 on same team), Wagoner, Washington. All very fast, very strong athletic freak MLBs. We need to get on this to take the next step - maybe Ogletree is that for us, and we move him inside next yr? Thoughts?

Even though I don't really agree with the picks, I gave ya a like for all the work that post must have taken. Nice job.

As for the picks, I haven't really watched too many of the players yet but as a rule, I don't like taking DT's in the first- especially in the top half. I still don't think Brockers was worth where he was taken. If a DT is taken in the first round, he'd better be able to get to the QB. Run stuffers can be found later on in the draft. Also, along with QB's and WR's, DT are among the highest bust rate. At least with QB's and WR's you have the possibility to draft a game changer. It's enormously rare to draft a game changing DT so I don't think the risk is warranted.

For the first round I'm looking at CB, S, and/or WR. I'd make an exception for Clowney if he fell to us. We are woefully thin at CB and S and need starters and we still don't have a true #1 WR on the roster. You guys can believe in them all you want but I've seen nothing from any of our WR's that makes me think they can progress into a #1.

Thanks for thr the props man. As for the wr's, i rather keep developing the guys we have instead of using another high pick on a wr. But i understand your view.

As for Hyde, he is climbing but i think he will slip a little like lacy did last year. Lots of good runningbacks this year, and i don't think any will be taken in the first, and if they are it will be late, so i could see lots taken in the 2nd causing a few to fall.

In the 1st rd I'd like:

1a DeAndre Hopkins
1b HaHa Clinton-Dix

Not sure you got the memo, but Deandre Hopkins was taken in last years draft by the Texans. I think you meant Sammy Watkins:peek:

I could live with Watkins and Clinton-Dix, just not my personal preference.

As for finding a MLB to replace JL, Perryman could be that guy if called upon, as he has played most of his career at MLB and is great at stopping the run and taking people down while also is a monster hitter and great tackler, and when i say great, i mean amazing.

A DT i really liked just as much was Ra'Shede Hageman, that guy is a beast, and it was basically a coin flip for who to take. He is probably more your cup of tea for a first round DT. Like him a lot, and has a background story like Michael Oher.

I like Clowney, but see no need for him, as like you said we are woefully thin at other positions.

I based my drafting of OT and Guards off Fishers past draft history. We all know he has never drafted a OT in the first, but you might not know he has never drafted a Guard before the 5th round.

I don't usually have 3 defensive players going in a row like that, this is just one of the rare cases that just fell together that way. Thanks for the props.

That wouldn't make a difference for me. It's not that they're in a row. I just don't think LB is that big of a need. I'd like to see us re-sign Dunbar. I would rather not draft a 2-down LB in the first 3 rounds unless we're getting a guy that can rush the passer in nickel sets. Because Ogletree and Laurinaitis aren't coming off the field.

As far as CB, there is a need there...not a huge one imo...but if there's one that is excellent value...I'd take him in the first few rounds.

And I'd take an LB if there's one with excellent value.

But...I just think there might be better value(i.e. comparably ranked players at positions of bigger needs) than Perryman and Verrett. That all said, I don't dislike the players you picked so I can't dislike the draft. :D
