Recently, Tom Brady’s personal exercise and diet guru, Alex Guerrero, has come under fire for being, as Boston Magazine dubbed Guerrero, a “glorified snake-oil salesman.” On Monday, Brady defended Guerrero — while also taking aim at a pair of American institutions.

I disagree with a lot of things that people tell you to do,” Brady said on WEEI. “You’ll probably go out and drink Coca-Cola and think, ‘€˜Oh yeah, that’s no problem.’ Why? Because they pay lots of money for advertisements to think that you should drink Coca-Cola for a living? No, I totally disagree with that. And when people do that, I think that’s quackery. And the fact that they can sell that to kids? I mean, that’s poison for kids. But they keep doing it. And obviously you guys may not have a comment on that because maybe that’s what your belief system is. So you do whatever you want, you live the life you want. . . .

“I think we’ve been lied to by a lot of food companies over the years, by a lot of beverage companies over the years. But we still do it. That’s just America, and that’s what we’ve been conditioned to. We believe that Frosted Flakes is a food. . . . You just keep eating those things, and you keep wondering why we have just incredible rates of disease in our country. No one thinks it has anything to do with what we put in our body.”


Brady’s assault on Coke and Tony the Tiger was sparked by the attack on Guerrero, who once got on the wrong side of the Federal Trade Commission by claiming that a drink called NeuroSafe could help athletes recover from concussions faster. (Russell Wilson approves of this message.)

Brady and Guerrero are now in business together, preaching the power of prevention. It’s quite likely that, after Brady retires from the NFL, he’ll focus on growing that business, persuading athletes and/or their parents to spend a bunch of money for avocado ice cream and other stuff aimed at making the body not break or crack or fray when facing the normal physical forces that come from playing football.

Regardless of whether their methods are effective, plenty of people will fork over plenty of cash in the hopes that there’s a way to counter the realities of basic Newtonian physics, as applied to human bones, tendons, muscles, and ligaments.

The problem on both sides of this sort of argument is extremism. Of course what you put into your body affects your health. Food does more than supply calories. On the other hand, no food that we’re legally sold in the USA is either a miracle cure or the devil’s poisonous tool. The FDA and the department of Agriculture aren’t 100% shills for “big food” and aren’t going to allow the public to be poisoned on a massive scale that the scare-mongers would have us believe. On the other hand, there is a wealthy and powerful lobby working the system so that less-than-ideal crap can be put on the shelves of our stores.

So what are we to do? Relax. More water, less soda. More fiber, less fat and sugar. More fruit and veggies, less meat and dairy. It’s not rocket science, and the fuel for the extremism on both sides seems not to be health, but money.

As much as I enjoy having fun at Brady's expense, what he said is absolutely true.

While the brain requires carbohydrate solely stored in the liver as fuel, refined sugars are SO POWERFUL that the brain reacts to them as powerfully as cocaine as seen under brain scans. It's why food scientists insist on selling us grains and processed carbs.

What's upsetting is that the pure science isn't up for debate. It's the money and politics in the way of cold hard scientific fact.

This might explain my mental state at the moment. :shocked: But seriously, I don't drink alcohol, sodas, or caffeine, don't smoke and get plenty of exercise because taking care of one's body is important. But leave my cereal alone Tom. :mad:

I love avocados, I love them so much I have one every day with lunch. Avocados are the perfect fruit for making “ice cream” because they are so creamy!

This avocado ice cream might look a little like the pistachio ice cream with the green food coloring that your friends used to love, but it’s green because of the avocados! Not only is it super-delicious and yummy, but it’s healthy too, so indulge as much as you want!

Why Is This Avocado Ice Cream Recipe So Healthy?
First of all, I have to say that this ice cream is great because it’s a good option for anyone that is either dairy free, gluten free, egg free or nut free! It’s even Paleo!

The main ingredient in this ice cream is avocados, a superfood for your health. I don’t like to go a day without an avocado! I like to have one at lunch, in a salad or even just alone! One reason avocados are beneficial to health is because they are an excellent source of vitamins, such as E and K and many minerals, like potassium and magnesium.

Secondly, avocados boast that they are a wonderful source of carotenoids and these are most ample right beneath the skin. Studies have found that carotenoids are involved in adding to the anti-inflammatory properties of vegetables. You may have heard of them under the names of beta-carotene, lutein or alpha-carotene.

But, most famously, avocados are known for being full of healthy fats! These fats are great because they have been found to boost the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients (the carotenoids above) in the foods that you eat with it! Also, these healthy fats are wonderful because they hold you over to the next meal!!!

Besides being anti-inflamatory, nutrient and healthy fat rich, another other bonuses you get from avocados is they are good for your liver, help you absorb fat soluble nutrients, and have been found to prevent and treat oral cancer cells!

How I Decided On This Recipe For Avocado Ice Cream
I’ve seen other avocado ice cream recipes on Pinterest and they look so delicious, but many of the recipes had milk and refined sugar and sugar is nothing I would ever eat! Sugar is so harmful, I could go on and on….but, anyway, I started experimenting and mixing and combining and subtracting parts of different avocado ice cream recipes I found. I also wanted to make the recipe as simple as possible. All you need for this recipe is 4 ingredients and you can make it in 10 minutes, no ice cream maker needed!

Key To Using A Perfectly Ripe Avocado
How do you know if the avocado is ready to use for this ice cream? It will be very dark and if you press on it your finger will sink in a bit. If it doesn’t budge then you know it’s too hard.

By the way…. to get the best health benefits from the avocado it is suggested to peel the skin off, like a banana. This way you will be sure to get the meat right below the skin.

How To Make Avocado Ice Cream-
Ingredients:
Instructions:
1. Peel avocados or cut in half and remove the pit, scraping out the flesh.
2. Smash avocado meat with a fork until no lumps or place in blender.
3. Add honey to avocado meat, mix thoroughly with spoon.
4. Put mixture in blender.
5. Add coconut or other milk you are using to the mix.
6. Blend on medium until you get a nice smooth consistency.
7. Take out and freeze for at minimum 2 hours or overnight.
Note: Sometimes the ice cream may be too frozen to eat directly from the freezer, so you may have to let it stand a little while in order for it to defrost (about 15 – 30 minutes).

Agreed, not a fan of processed sugars as they are hard to break down in your body. I'm gonna throw aside my disdain for Brady and agree with him on this one

That's the problem with big businesses, they require a higher upkeep to maintain their profit margin and would go as far as selling long-term poison in our bodies just to stay relevant in the business world. I recommend reading into ingredients of foods sold in groceries and avoid anything that has processed ingredients (high fructose corn syrup, butylated hydroxyanisole, tertiary butylhhydroquinone, etc.) just anything that sounds complicated.

We need dairy. Gluten is like the polar opposite of the anti-sugar/soda types. Anti-egg is for the vegans out there (I'm veggie and eat eggs). I googled what "paleo" means and it says eating things before the invention of the agricultural revolution? That doesn't make sense to me. We exist now b/c of that discovery. Anyway, going off a tangent here.

Again, we need milk. And she needs to get off her fucking high horse. Sugar is harmful like anything else with over consumption. A little bit ain't gonna do shit if you take care of yourself. Also it's hilarious she calls for people to add in honey. The bottle I have says it has 16 g of sugar in it per serving. Pretty sure people will marinade that stuff with it. "Oh it's healthy tho" LOL.

We try to eat on the healthier side but with three kids and always on the go it is very difficult. Plus my kids love certain foods, like soda. We limit how often we buy it and how many they can drink. We usually are a meat and potatoes kind of family. We buy most of our meat from farmers and have it butchered. But if you look hard enough, anything short of a Paleo diet gets criticized for something or other. Throw in, that if it doesn't taste good...........the kids wont eat it.

I buy Skippy all Natural peanut butter. Been doing that for a few years. Recently I saw an story saying it is no good for you. How can you win? Maybe by growing your own fruits and vegetables and your own meat so you know what is in it and catching fish from your own pond.....in otherwords become a farmer and can and dry foods. That's tough to do if you don't have the space or are not zoned to keep livestock.

I once read that decades ago mortuaries had much less time to start preserving bodies for a viewing. Now they have much more time because our bodies are ful of preservatives. Another thing is that people get ovarian cancer and prostate cancer and different organ cancers because the cancer triggering agents in the body are pulled down due to gravity and that is where they settle. My wife used to work with a OB/GYN cancer specialist.

I really think Brady is right to some extent, however as long as you stay away from the worst of the evils you will be fine. Most of it is genetics. The women in my Grandmothers family all lived to 90+. She passed away at 99. She started smoking when she was 15 and did so her entire life. Her mother never smoked and lived to 104. I am sure they didn't eat healthy all of their lives, either. I know for a fact that my Grandmother didn't. On the other hand I knew a guy who died at 56. He loved bacon so much that on the drive home from the butchershop he would eat it raw. Plus he smoked. Try to do your best with what you can manage but don't stress about it and don't try to do more than what you can afford.

I've been around long enough to remember when the experts were telling everyone that guacamole and coconut was bad for you because it was full of fat and caused cancer!
