The Guinness Book of World Records says the 78 foot wave that surfer Garrett McNamara rode
in Portugal in November is the biggest wave ever surfed.

Do all surfers make stupid sounds while being interviewed?

Probably my favorite Spicoli scene.

Surfers do take great pride in their lingo. Some just don't know how to speak any other way though. LOL

The guy riding that monster wave is a nut. That is just crazy. When they ride waves that size, a jet ski is usually involved... they have to have the jet ski pull them like they were skiing. Waves like that are moving too fast to catch when you're just paddling. The jet ski allows them to gather enough speed in order to catch the wave.

I started surfing when I was real young in living in HI. Saw waves all the time there that were too big for the locals even to try. Nothing as big as that giant in the video though. I was witness to more than a couple of really bad surfing accidents. Those big waves are nothing to play with, you can easily die.

Waves here in FL are nothing like HI, but there are still some good surfing beaches up and down the east coast. I still get texts / phone calls from some of my friends who live in New Smyrna Beach (about 30 minutes from my house) when there are some really good waves happening. The message is always given to me in "surfer" ... "The waves are FIRING Brah"
