It's not the flu, but dammit, it sure feels like death nonetheless.

My son got it first (he's the one who always ends up giving me whatever plague he gets...) and he was dizzy, disoriented and had significant body aches and shakes.

Fever was mild, but because he has grown so fast recently (he's 6'4" and he's just turned 16... he's actually got stretch marks on his knees and back from growing so fast). So, because he's thin and has grown, we weren't sure if his body was maybe a bit out of whack compensating.

Thankfully, no fever spike (my kids tend to do that) and after a couple of days of flushing water, ZippFizz (I swear by that stuff) and ibuprofen, he got on the other side of it.

The cough has the potential to be ugly. Even with very infected chest mucus, my nose is clear. That's important to know for some of us. THIS cold heads straight for the chest... and that's the bad kind of cold...

I've had pneumonia twice. The first one nearly killed me (not exaggerating, the Doc actually said I should be dead) and the second was a double pneumonia, so I get a little mental when the kids bring home any plagues because of how serious it can get for me. Also, I can't get the flu shot. Doesn't help with colds, but the 3 worst flus I had (not including the ones mentioned above) were in 3 consecutive years when I got the shot. I'm not allergic to eggs, but for some reason, I think I react to the shot...because I get really, really sick almost immediately.

Anyway... THIS bugger going around is NO JOKE.

The MINUTE you feel flushy, get fever reducers into your system and start flushing with fluids like water and brewed Green Tea immediately (unless you can't take Tylenol or Motrin or Advil or their generics, then contact your Dr right away). I highly recommend a Vitamin B complex flush like ZippFizz, but not everyone can take it because of medications. It's better than pills. No, I don't get paid, it just works, so I pass the word along. So few things actually do as advertised... Oh, and zinc. If you don't want to take zinc pills, a great way to fight a cold is Tom's of Maine toothpaste with zinc instead of flouride. Couple that with the zinc based mouthwash and you're basically not giving the cold germs a place to live in your mouth. Which is probably why I have no nasal infection...thank the Good Lord.

Both my daughter and I have had a MUCH easier time of it, but dangitall, this bugger has been just awful. I feel like I took on the Rams D all by my lonesome... And because I've had pneumonia, it went right to my chest. I actually felt it in my chest within minutes of my first sniffle.

So, take care this holiday season. Be on the lookout and jump that Cold route like JJ looking for a pick 6! Colds during the holidays...just....suck.

Be well all,
Mack

Other than the hemorrhagic fever...

It's so strange that colds feel so bad. The last double pneumonia I had wasn't all that bad. The cough was bad, but I didn't feel like THIS.

I really feel like I was put into an industrial dryer or made to tackle Earl Campbell one on one...

I just wanted to put the word out so if anyone starts to feel it, they jump on it and don't ignore it or play macho because this bug ain't playin'...

Sounds like mine bro.

I've had some BS for about a week to two weeks now. Coughing up nasty ass mucus. It's just now getting a bit better, but the most irritating of coughs still happening at night.

No fever, but congestion that sucks.

My wife is still getting over her bout with that ick. I had it a couple months ago and it knocked the shit outta me too. Like you said, no real fever, but you feel like you are inside a barrel going over the falls for a while there. Nasty stuff. Hope you feel better soon.

Hopefully, a BIG Rams win tomorrow night will buoy my spirits. I just have to remember not to cheer to loudly or my cough will kick in.

I went straight to the Delsim... forget that Robitussin mess... and it's still breaking through a lil bit.

Thanks for the kind words. Mostly I just wanted to get the word out for those that haven't had it that THIS cold isn't one of the lighter colds. This is a bull named 'Body Cast' who got wrapped extra tight and has a real bad attitude"

Take this cold lightly and it'll be weeks of regret...

So, ya know...an ounce of prevention and all that...

Oh, and for anyone else who's got it... hydrate and feel better. =)

I think I had that cold earlier in the semester. Was a pain in the ass going to class with it. Chest crap lingered for awhile.

But I've been healthy for the last few months. *Knocks on wood*

I had this fun stuff a couple months ago. Went straight for my chest, knocked my voice out but my nose was completely clear. Worked though it, didn't have much of a choice, but definitely not fun without a voice and a cough that would convince strangers I'd been smoking since I was 3.

Yeah Mac I feel ya, I had a cold when I went to CO over Thanksgiving , all the immunol suppressants I'm on ,prednisone, cellcept, tacrolimus, made that MF hang on over a month, anyway I was just OK for 2 days then had to be hospitalized for two days cuz I spiked a fever and my O2 level was hovering around 86% , I'd bought a pulse-ox on my way out , ended up having to stay on an oxygen generator until we came down out of the mountains.
The Drs. at the med center out there told me it was all too common for flat land Drs. to tell their patients they shouldn't have any trouble and that there were three competing companies in Summit County doing a land office business supplying O2 to people who shouldn't be there .

I've been on several anti virals but unfortunately they still don't have anything for the rhino, so colds are the bane for me as well.

Yeah probably right , for a while there it looked like Ebola was going to run amok , funny thing there hospital in CO asked me if I'd been in West Africa anytime during the last two weeks , the Drs. in my home town expanded that to three weeks.
I'll probably get more colds , my wife teaches 4th grade and those little nose pickers spread disease like it was their job.
