If I am not mistaken the Rams can hold on to Donald for two more seasons without resigning him. This would likely put him on the downside of his career when he signs after that, to me the Rams have the upper hand in these negotiations and should not break the bank for him by giving him top QB money. As for Shu if he refuses to sign a one or two year contact for 10 million a season move on from him, I'm not even sure he is a good fit. The Rams use to have to over pay to get free agents to play for them when they were perennial losers this has changed now that they are winning. Players now want to come to L.A. and play for the Rams.

Well, sort of. Donald can refuse to sign the franchise tag until late in the season. The Rams will have to keep him tagged though, if they withdraw the tag he is immediately a free agent. The next season they would have to tag him again, with the increase in pay, at which point he could hold out again until late in the season.

Basically, if Donald wanted he could screw the Rams until the Rams caved. And he is very competitive, and could choose to do that. The power is NOT all in the Rams' hands.

3 more. This is his 5th year option and then they can tag him the next two seasons following that. Honestly if the Rams are smart they should do that lol
