Man, it seems as if FreeAgency has simply become which teams will overpay 4 "good" players at a position of need! #timingiseverything

First days of free agency seem so exciting, until 2 or 3 years from now when many are being cut as they are over-paid for their production.

Bill Polian: Free agency is like paying Neiman Marcus prices for Macy's or Traget's merchandise.

Ok...kind of.

I agree. The only free agents worth paying big money to are guys at the top of their game. Reggie White was a great signing for example. Alex Mack would be a great guy to pony up for.

Mack is the only player I see worthy of a big payday. Corners and Safeties usually tail off after their rookie contracts are up. Once the legs go the production drops. We saw that with Finnegan. Once in a while you see a guy like Aeneas Williams, Rod Woodson, or Champ Bailey have very productive and long careers, but it is rare. Those are the types worth paying the big bucks. They have something in common with Mack in that they are the best in the league at their positions.

OGs are not worth big money contracts because the difference even an elite OG makes compared to a good one is usually not that big. SLBers aren't on the field enough to spend big on. The only guys worth it are again at the top of the league and still young, or play the same positions that every team highly values in the draft, which are OT, DE, and QB.

The Rams need to get Quinn and Brockers locked up and then follow in a few years with their Corners. After that will be Tavon, Bailey and Ogletree. If they let Quinn hit the market they will regret it. I am happy with not overpaying for Free agents, like Finnegan and Cook.

At the risk of derailing the thread, this has been a big part of my argument against drafting someone to play guard (at least for the conceivable future) with a top 10 pick.

Unless we get someone decent at G in FA though, we might be forced to though.

We win. Nothing like counting money while other teams address their needs.
They might be sorry in 3 years, we might be sorry this year...
