Wow, did we dodge a bullet or what?

Justin Blackmon escorted from sideline after arguing with Dolphins, teammate

Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon is suspended for the first four games of the regular season and he’s not able to play right now because he’s recovering from groin surgery, so you’d might have thought he’d keep a low profile during Friday night’s game against the Dolphins.

That was not the case, however. Mark Long of the Associated Press reports that Blackmon got into a verbal altercation with Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll on the sideline during the first half of the game. Jaguars coach Gus Bradley had to step in to calm things down, but, according to Long, things flared up again when Jaguars defensive end Jason Babin suggested that Blackmon not talk trash with opponents when he’s facing a suspension.

That led to further arguing and Blackmon was eventually escorted from the field by running back Maurice Jones-Drew. Gene Frenette of the Florida Times Union reports that Bradley said after the game that he met with Blackmon to let him know he wasn’t happy about the receiver’s actions on the sideline.

“That’s not what we want on the sideline. That’s not who we are or what we want to become,” Bradley said.

Absent other concerns about a player’s maturity, this probably wouldn’t be too big a deal. For Blackmon, though, it fits with a pattern that hasn’t led to much good news in his brief NFL career.

You guys have no idea how happy I was when the Jags jumped above us to grab him. I didn't foresee the off-field problems, of course, but I just thought there were a lot of WRs going later in the draft that would turn out to be better than him including Chris Givens.

I'd still take him. Emotions got the best of him.

This dude isn't Rolando McClain of WRs. He made idiotic mistakes and has a chance to become better.

I can't say I'm happy we didn't take him. To be honest, everyone knew he was a troubled player. There is no doubt in my mind that there would have been a plan in place here in STL for Blackmon to flourish. It just seems to me that Jacksonville is having trouble dealing with the player. I guess my point is, maybe he would be a different player under different circumstances.

Rams did very well with Jenkins. I think they could have handled Blackmon off the field. As far ass this? The kid is young, hungry, and competitve to the point that being on that basement dweller of a team has to be fruatrating. Top that off with he knows he has a month of regular season off AND can't play preseason? I'd be pissed too.

I'd trade Quick AND Pettis straight up at this point.

Same here.

He's looking like a troubled player; but I wouldn't write him off yet.

The knock on Blackmon before the draft was mostly about his ability to separate, less about his off the field stuff.

His final 7 games last year in yardage; 236, 62, 9, 57, 93, 79, 79 and 4 TD's. This projects to over 1400yds and 9 TDS... with who at QB?

So, again... his main critique (getting separation) sort of looks bunk over those final 7 games as a rookie. The jury is out, but this remains a potentially very good player.

And you know what else? He may not get a DUI if drafted by the Rams. Different situation, different supervision. In other words, he certainly isn't going to the same location while coming FROM the same location, and maybe his player rep gets into his head before he even thinks about making that kind of stupid decision.

He looks like a hot mess right now, but there are very few Rams fans who didn't want him to get drafted by us.

Never wanted him, glad we passed/missed , Fisher has skills but at the position we'd have taken him you don't need to HAVE to baby sit THAT guy unless he's a sure HOF prospect.
The risk reward analysis alone sez, no, then the fact that at his size if you draft that high his 40 time was slow, nah not on paper not on intangibles, we lucked out

While it does look bad for him in Jacksonville right now, it's hard to say how things would have turned out if he was drafted by the Rams. I have total faith in our staff and coaching that they could handle a player like this and develop him. First time I've felt this way in a long time. That being said, I like what the Rams are doing since passing on him and think we will be just fine.

I wonder if they'd actually consider trading him at this point? Probably not but I still think he'd be very good on the right team with the right leadership. I have my doubts he's getting that in Jacksonville.
