Steven Jackson enjoyed a fantastic career in St. Louis before struggling through two years in Atlanta, which released him this offseason.
Age caught up to Jackson, 31, just as it does all great running backs. At the start of free agency, Jackson is now on the market not only pushing his own worth, but that of the NFL running back in general. His Save The Running Back video campaign is a bit of dry humor, but the decline in the value put on rushers can't be ignored, either.

The campaign's website serves a dual purpose: promoting the Steven Jackson Foundation, which promotes education and healthy living for the youth. No one's laughing at that.
Meanwhile, Jackson is looking for a job. Mark Ingram, LeSean McCoy and Marshawn Lynch have all signed or agreed to sign new contracts in the past week. The league's leading rusher, DeMarco Murray, is a coveted free agent. There could also be a running back drafted in the first round for the first time since 2012. The money won't be what it was just five years ago.
Jackson, inspired by the likes of greats Walter Payton and Barry Sanders, wants to "draw attention and restore value to the position he loves."
It's a good effort, especially with proceeds from paraphernalia going to his Foundation.
