No one deserves this, especially kids. I hope for the best for Sted and his Cousin. Fuck the people who did this, they can rot for cowardice.

Is there anyway the bullets bounced and hit him? I can't imagine getting shot straight up twice in the head and living.
It's possible they were both 'glancing' shots....just skinned the surface w/o penetrating the skull. *IF* that's what happened, it's a major stroke of luck......if there is anything about getting shot in the head that can be considered lucky.

And given that he was sufficiently alert & oriented to speak with of a member of the Rams' medical staff on the phone, it would seem likely the injuries couldn't have been too bad. The hospital's medical staff would never have allowed that if they believed he was in any serious danger. The only real question mark is the reports of 8hr in surgery

I'm not a doctor (obviously), but I've heard about people surviving shots in the head where the bullet penetrates the skull. Had to have been a small calibur bullet, because anything over a 22 would have done irreparable harm.

A .22 at close range is actually especially devastating to the brain because it bounces around the inside of the skull, lacking the power to exit. Or so I've been told.

I'm not an MD either, but have been present in Trauma Rm #1 at Barnes for a LOT more of these type situations than I'd care to count. And yes, a skull penetrating GSW isn't always fatal. But it's equally true the probabilities of them being so are WAY higher than if not.

Yeah I saw that movie too.
Casino, I think.

I don't know about those claims. All I know is, it's possible the bullet went in and he'll end up being alright. He's extremely lucky, however. There are only a few spots where you can get shot, the bullet goes into the brain, and you end up surviving it. Someone's looking out for him, and I hope he'll take it as motivation to completely turn his life around. Those kinds of second chances are rare.

It's not the wound per se; it is the after-effects which can totally destroy someone's life. Anyone who has suffered a TBI -- traumatic brain injury -- is at high risk of personality and mood changes and will probably require a long period of rehab just to get back to where they were prior to the injury. A first-rate athlete faces a particularly daunting task -- to work back to the level of physical fitness and reactive ability, to say nothing of the speed and eye-hand coordination that he had previous to the trauma. I hope he comes back, but if he does I fear it will be at least a year if not significantly longer before we see him again.

Pray for him. He is going to need it.

My prayers and good wishes for a speedy and complete recovery go out to Stedman. Come back, guy, BETTER THAN BEFORE!

The odds of the earth supporting life is mind boggling when you think of the millions or billions of failed planets & stars in the universe.
All the ancestors before us, who somehow survived, all those close brushes with death, disease etc........ and for Sted to now get shot in the head because people today have no respect for human life? That's what blows my mind. Some people just don't get how precious this opportunity called life is. Sted will survive and 100+ years from now his great great grandchildren will tell the story of his survival and understand how close they came to never existing. I do hope he's alright going forward.

Oh without a doubt, if I got to pick the caiber of the weapon that would be shot at the head, the lower the better.

I learned about the 22 thing from my mom who worked in the icu for many years. I remember her telling me about a man who shot himself THROUGH the head with a 30.06 and drove himself to the hospital and survived...

Sometimes people not only survive insane injuries, they remain coherent.

Guy in my unit got shot in the head by a sniper and was just fine. Happens more often than people think, just depends on where you get hit, distance, caliber, obstacles, etc. Lots of variables.

Being shot twice in the head and surviving means only one thing. It's not your time to go. A .22 can be a terrible round to be shot with because of the ricochet effect but any round to the head is not good no?

My guess is that the surgery is on his hip where he got shot, the bullets only grazed his head but I guess he took one right to the hip.

Surgery that long would mean major damage to his hip which could put the NFL career on hold or in jeopardy.

Looking at the Rams wideouts with an eye towards next year and beyond...

1. Austin. The only real piece that matters and he's not really a great fit for a power offense. I predicted a little while back that the Rams might try to move him while he has value, although as I look through this group now it would leave them with even less so I'd say that concept was as crazy as you guys told me it was.

2. Britt. Should be a cap casualty. They can bring in rookies who will give them inconsistent routes and production for much cheaper.

3. Quick. He's as good as gone. Some team with real offensive coaches will bring him aboard under an incentive laden contract but it won't be the Rams IMO.

4. Bailey. I think he will be cut, personally. Rams care about him, sure, but he's let them down twice now and this team really needed him this time around. Time to cut bait.

5. Welker. Presumption here is that Wes sticks for another season. As he plays himself into game shape he should be more and more important to this offense and I think they keep him around.

6. Marquez. He's gonna be there next year and that's cool and all but he's a teams guy not a matchup problem.

That leaves us with:

1. Tavon.
2. Welker.
3. Marquez.

So obviously we're looking at some combination of 3 additions in FA and the draft. At least one of those needs to be a FA who can help this team sooner vice later. And with the two draftees I pray to F that they're guys who can run routes and catch the GD ball, not more long-on-potential-but-gonna-be-projects-for-3-years types.

It's all very surreal. I mean, I don't know him personally, but after he DM'd me on Twitter and asked me to make a video of his highlights from last year, and we had some small talk, I feel like a friend of mine was shot. I was gonna burn him a DVD of his career highlights as a Ram, but now I don't think it's a good idea. I have no idea if he's even gonna play football anymore. Fuck those cowards in Miami. God I hate these fake ass gangsters who never learned to use their fists.

It really is a cold and cruel world when someone would try to murder four people, two of them children, in a drive-by. That's Aaron Hernandez-like stuff.

My thoughts go out to Bailey (I hope he gets to where he was.), his cousin (Even if the guy was the target of the drive-by, he still had a good enough heart to protect his kids, and nobody deserves to die to such cowardice.), and the kids (who are going to need all of the help they can get). My thoughts also go out to their families and friends.

We have a media-complex that drives this stuff in to us as hard as they can starting when we're all a very young age. Unfortunately, it's human nature to emulate, even if what we see is on a screen.

I think it's still a good idea. It may actually help motivate him.. At the very least, I'm sure he would appreciate the effort and thought.

I am kind of frustrated by the lack of updates.

There hasn't been a meaningful update anywhere since ___?
