Folks are talking about Goff's postgame comments, but the one that stands out for me is Saffold's.

Rams OL Rodger Saffold, on Jared Goff's development: "To me, after having this season, when he told everybody that he's going to do whatever it takes to change it, let's see how these next few months go, and we'll see if he does. We'll see if he does."

WTF?

It might be years until we know the truth but if the players feel Goff sucks, his pep talks sure will generate a lot of rolling eyeballs.

In any case, I can't imagine a scenario where Saffold's comments are OK...

Couldn't careless what Saffold says considering his performance in O-line has been poor all season. Then again, the scheme we played with was a death sentence for the entire O-line.

I think it all comes back to how the Rams handled his addition from day one.

Fish wanted a QB, but after getting him he pushes Keenum as the leader of the team and starter from day one. Instead of doing what a more QB-savvy team like Philly did where they made their investment the focus of their offense in spite of him looking a lot like Goff did. Philly simplified things, schemed it up for him to have an easier time, and traded the veteran everyone on the team would prefer they play.

The Rams expected their high pick to adjust to their offense and know it. Which I personally thought and still do was a mistake. They took him for a reason and should have stayed true to that and built it around him from day one.

And tbh his standing with the team followed. This was Case's team as a result and he was the high priced rookie who didn't get it done in the minds of some of these guys.

But fast forward to the new regime, provided they bring in a good offensive coach, he will build it around what Goff does well and have him ready to go by using the camp and OTAs to ensure he's in charge of a scheme he can handle and in which his talent will shine through. Next year, IMO, it will be Goff's team.

That sounds like a movie. All Goff needs to do is get into a bar room brawl with some enemy players and take a punch for Saffold. Then Saffold will change his mind and accept Goff as his leader...It works every time.

Goff can't turn this around himself. No one can.

We need to heavily retool the oline. If you watched the game every handoff is a 3 yard loss in the backfield. Goff goes back to pass and defenders are bursting through the line. It's like the opposing team is rushing with 4 Aaron Donald's.

There is nothing humanly possible that Goff can do when there is that type of pressure on third and 13 after the dropped passes and Gurley 3 yard losses.

Best scenario is a healthy Saffold, healthy Havenstein and 3 oline additions. The rest are garbage.

Goff says all the right things just needs to play better the whole team needs to play better, but I can understand Saffold's trepidation and you underscore what a horrendous year all the way around and I'm not shocked there are more of these comments.

My feeling on Fisher, I think he wanted to keep the picks and draft a QB later, however, I believe the Rams felt they waited long enough and realized they had an opportunity to trade up and did it. Now did the select the right guy? Jury is still out, but this is what they have now and they must do whatever it takes to ensure Goff has every opportunity to be successful and the journey begins today!

Lot's of better ways to say this with an encouraging slant. Like" I'm sure Jared will work hard this off season to turn things around. We all need to work hard this off season."

Goff has to get better plain and simple. I compared his numbers to other rookie QBs in the league and it isn't pretty. I know his supporting cast and coaching sucked, but it's not like Kessler was dealing with the greatest either. I believe Goff can get it right. I believe in his talent. Sadly in today's NFL he will be asked to make huge strides immediately. It's going to be tough. The Rams got to help him out talent wise and scheme wise.

To be fair ..... And I'm not a RS fan but ... they didn't include the entire quote. After he said "we'll see if he does" ,he went on to say "because this is going to be a whole different team." Now ... that could be RS meaning that it's not going to be easy to turn THIS team around ... when many won't even be on the NEXT team. IDK ... but when I first read the quotes ... then watched the actual interview, I came away with a couple different ideas of what he meant to say.

Goff is also a part of the reason he got sacked a few times as well.

I was wonder about the context. I didn't check like you did. Very good to do all the time.

Any link?

Well that does change a lot, actually. The way I interpreted the quote makes RS look like an a-hole that should be immediately jettisoned. Your way, he's just frustrated and pragmatic/realistic. Big difference.

It still comes down to how seriously Goff takes this. Is he the goofy, PS4 playing just left teenage spoiled athlete, or the young adult, tough, hit the books and lead this team guy the Rams need.

Hoping it's the latter.

I haven't check the numbers, but Cromwell may have had a better year than Gurley. Pryor has also proven to be a good WR. Kessler played in a better offense imo.

Saffold should keep his mouth shut! All he did all Season long was Talk and get Hurt, Talk and get Hurt, and Talk and get Hurt!
And I NEVER cared for the idea of moving him back into a position as a OT, he is best suited to be a Guard!
