Finally got to watch "Deadpool" last night
I give it a 5/10
Don't know if my expectations were too high or what, but I found it to be rather dreadfull, only saved by some great fight scenes and the gorgeous Morena Baccarin
May as well been called "Van Wilder becomes a super hero"

***This is an ALERT***
I took my girls to see "Pete's Dragon" yesterday. My girls are 5 and 11
*No Spoilers*
BUT BE WARNED
I had one on my lap Bawling her eyes out, while the other was gripping my hand so tight I have to type with my left hand only today....
My 4 yr old granddaughter liked it. Yeah there were some tense moments. I myself enjoyed the movie. I thought it was a fresh take on the story.

Ok, I think I'm getting too old for the movies because I tried to watch "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and couldn't make it more than an hour.
I give it an incomplete at the moment, but not sure I'll ever make it all the way thru!

Inferno

7/10

I am a big fan of Dan Brown's books. They are fun to read and while I get the complaints about him and have a few of my own, it's just a fun little ride with some interesting sights along the way. I was a little concerned when I read about the reviews for "Inferno" because they are terrible.

While the film is not a 10 by any stretch of the imagination--it wasn't all that bad either. It is that fun little ride with some interesting things to see along the way. The films don't have time to dig into the historical bits the way the novel does, but it touches on the main ones pretty well. It was great seeing some shots of Venice and Istanbul(places I will never see) and the film follows the book closely except for a couple of things--kinda big, really--bur I'll get to that.

The acting is pretty good--although I didn't quite buy Felicity Jones in her role.

Tom Hanks is always good.

My biggest complaint is one big change from the book. I was going to touch on it but it's a pretty huge spoiler so I guess I'd better not. I'll just say that the film version is more of the "Hollywood" version and I liked the book version.

All in all--worth a look.

Arrival....

Really well done. Avoided most of the alien arrival movie clichés. Movie is must more about human nature, mistrust and language. Really enjoyed it.

I find it a bit ironic that you would even watch that movie if you saw the previews. Glad I missed it though. I'm not what you'd call a Russell Crowe fan anyway. But the previews were enough to tell me I could spend two hours doing a lot more enjoyable things - like listening to an endless loop of Rosanne Barr singing the National Anthem, watching the WNBA, or taking in a heated curling match.

A big fan of Russell Crowe here. Never imagined he would get himself involved in an epic disaster like that. The book of Genesis, which deals with the flood, leaves a lot of room for Hollywood type interpretation but this was drivel even for them. It wasn't blasphemous, just stupid.

It coulda have been good, but they fkd it up on an epic level. It's like the screen writer, director, and studio execs were all tripping balls on shrooms when this was being made. I imagine Crowe asking a dozen times during filming "really? This is how this is going down?" I am a Crowe fan myself. Such a bad movie.

Dr. Strange, a good 7/10.

Solid Marvel movie. Liked that there were 2 villains in this one, both pretty good.

Doc Strange is a dick, funny, and awesome. It really follows the original Iron Man story in terms of plot. Good character development for him as well.

Saw a few movies flying to and from Missouri.

Counter Intelligence
7/10
It was a funny movie, I think both the Rock and Kevin Hart did a good job. good action scenes, nothing too crazy but a solid comedy flick.

Independence Day 2
7/10
Similar to Force Awakens in that they have a lot of nods and callbacks to the original, but it held up. Still, basically the same movie, but I enjoyed it. They teased a 3rd one (which was originally the plan), but with the poor showing it wouldn't shock me if they decided not to. The teaser for it sounded like a better movie, albeit it'd probably be very similar to Starship Troopers.

Neighbors 2
5/10
Meh, didn't get to finish it, didn't care.

Captain America Civil War
8/10
I don't get geeked out over Marvel movies, since I didn't read any comics as a child. It was a fun movie though, not hard to follow. Good special effects.

London Has Fallen
7/10
Absolutely ridiculous plot, totally unrealistic, but that's part of the fun I guess. I wish they had attempted to be more plausible with the plot, but it would be hard to do since there's no way you could infiltrate palace guards, especially for an event like that, and if there really was a situation where the president was trapped in a city, there would have been so many Delta/SF/SEAL teams on the ground, not to mention SAS and other elite groups it wouldn't even be funny. Not to mention there would be armed escorts with Marine 1, more than just decoy choppers with an event like that.. But they needed it for the plot. Either way, decent action flick if you remove yourself from that.

Trivia: $1,000 ROD cash to the answer

Two films, one released in 1971 the other in 1974 and both set in the city of San Francisco. One film opens with a tribute to policemen and the other to firemen.

Name them both.

On topic, I watched "Ant Man" the other night.
Was surprised at how much I enjoyed it
I give it a solid 7/10 for enjoyment, but please lets not make a sequel...

Rogue One:

9/10

It was awesome, a lot of fun.. I think the character writing could have been a little stronger, because I didn't really connect with any of them, but it didn't take away from the movie at all. The ending was worth the price of admission alone.
