Had to replay the defensive huddle at 3:50 a couple of times to see who was speaking. At first thought it was Cromwell, but it was Vince Newsome. Impressed with his calm, well-spoken leadership aura, I did some checking to see what he was up to these days. Found out he was in the Ravens' front office for many years (as director of pro personnel). Ravens were one of the best, if not THE best, in the league for many years. And Vince was director of pro personnel for that team. Very impressive. Never knew that before.

Thanks for posting! I was 20 that season having been a fan for 10 years at that point. Living on the east coast I did not get to see many of the games but I remember that season well.

Thanks for sharing. Vince was a solid safety back then. :helmet:

Dennis Harrah, Kent Hill, Tom Newberry, Irv Pankey, Doug Smith, Jackie Slater. That right there was one heck of an offensive line.

Kent Hill actually went to Houston in the trade that brought back Jim Everett.

I worked for Kent Hill's cousin when I was in college in the early-80's. Looked exactly like Kent but five inches shorter and 125 pounds lighter. Decorated Vietnam vet. Nicest guy in the world but I made sure never to cross him.

That is awesome.
The NFL was still new to me at this time as I only had a weekly 1-hour show in the UK to go by as well as books and magazines.
Dickerson had already become one of my favourite players and I became a Rams fan in preseason 1987.

Oh, and let's not forget how great that uniform was.

I was at that game when Everett came in as a rookie. It is still one of my favorite Rams games ever.

The whole stadium was screaming "Everett, Everett, Everett" literally forcing Robinson to put him in the game, and the crowd went absolutely bonkers when he trotted onto the field.

Everett absolutely tore it up that day.

Unfortunately, the damn Patriots won the game in the closing minutes, but Rams fans didn't give a shit...we had our qb...finally!

They actually traded Kent Hill to Houston for Jim Everett, there was more involved, but Hill was included in the package sent to Houston.

So much irony with the Jim Everett trade, Houston made the deal because they had Warren Moon, Houston & the Rams were neck & neck with signing Moon from Canada, however, Houston was able to seal the deal, when including Moon's coach in Canada in Hugh Campbell, who lasted two seasons in Houston, it's too bad that Moon went to Houston because IMO, with Warren Moon the Rams would of had one heck of chance to win a few Super Bowls, even in 85 against the Bears.

I concur with @Karate61 the Jim Everett trade in 86 ranks up there as one of the most exciting times being a Ram fan and the fact I was in Ohio at the time (Air Force) I actually went to a few Purdue games (Indiana boarders Ohio) and Everett was special I remember when the trade was announced being so fired up and IMO, Everett did not disappoint.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Pats won on a Hail Mary on the last play. I believe it was Irving Fryar, but that might be wrong. Put a little bit of a damper on Everett's debut, but I think Ram fans were so excited by what they saw in Everett that it made the loss much less painful. At least that's how I felt at the time.

Yes. My seats were in the opposite end zone, and I couldn't see the play well. Hell of a lucky catch on a tipped ball.

I found this clip of the play.
